ThinkVantage crashed during BIOS update so now laptop won't boot, just beeps.

Does anyone know how to recover from this apart from replacing the MB?

Seems like a fairly common occurrence.

This is very serious as its my CAD workstation so any help most welcome!

I'm afraid that it could be quite serious.

Usually bios update goes smoothly once it's released from Lenovo. Did you do something while it was updating?

In case of failing bios update you should not reboot the computer (if possible) until you flash the bios with version that can complete the flash process, or else you risk of not being able to boot again. Such as in your case as it seems.

I've heard of companies that can sell you BIOS chip only to install on your MB, but that means that you should be able to desolder the old one and solder back the new one, and that is often not easy to do. And I bet the bios chip is not sitting on a socket, like with the computers back in the day.

better send the laptop back to Lenovo if you cant get it to boot from all possible sources.

you would probably need to find a company that can actually physically reflash the bios, otherwise you are looking for a new motherboard which is not cheap.
