yes the 17" units are discontinued, the W701 was the last of them as I dont believe a 710 was made and none of the second gen ( sandy bridge ) core i series was made. currently only Dell and HP make 17" workstations with the Precision m6700 and Elitebook 8770w

    Oops. It is discontinued.

Last one was the W701 with the arrandale quad core processors.

There is a rumor that Lenovo will release a 16" (to replace W530) and a 17"/18" ThinkPad in the W series with the refresh in the 2nd half of the year. But it is until now only a rumor.

My rumor mill says that W530 15.6" screen is practically 16". But it's just a rumor.

Good luck with eBay...W70* units are fairly rare, and examples in good condition still hold their price exceptionally well.

Parts are horrendously expensive and then some...

I always thought the DS version (with the little pull-out screen) was neat.

    But not $2k neat.

Careful when looking at ebay. Many shady listings are for the W700 but also put W701 in the title to catch more search hits.

I personally have both models (W700 + 701), and think these are the best machines I ever owned. Too bad that the W700 is limited to 8 GB RAM and doesn't have an LED screen.

As for a potential W800, that would be awesome. I just hope that 16 GB SODIMMs will be available by then but doubt it.

Darnit, at first I thought we'd get 15.4 16:10 1920x1200 back, but that would've been too good to be true... sigh..
