Today I downloaded Vista 64-bit SP1. After the system rebooted the first time I am getting a BSOD in NTCLEARALLSAVEPOINTS during the boot sequence. There is no information on google on this.

I don't think I'm going to have an choice other than to just install a backup.
    Of the non-sp1 disk.

At this time, I would not recommend Vista 64 bit users to install SP1.

I can't change the name of this thread unfortunately... This BSOD is not limited to 64 bits. This means it effects 32 bit systems.

The problem is not really with SP1 - it comes from a hight priority patch that you cannot turn off that is a precursor to SP1.

I didn't have a problem. I just installed it this morning.

    Just FYI,
I installed Vista SP1 x64 on my R61 this morning. I received a bsod about 10seconds after starting the install. After rebooting the system I again started the install and so far all is good. it took about 30-40minutes and a couple reboots but things seem normal. run, winver shows build 6001 so SP1 x64 is installed and initial impressions are that all systems are go. Time will tell off course, I'm still a bit concerned about the bsod on the first attempted install.

It's not the T61, but much of the hardware and software is similar.

I should also note that I checked my update log and it does show that the troublesome patch ( KB937287 ) was installed on my system on 2/16/08

Another note, e-mail with Thunderbird stopped connecting to my mail servers (two separate accounts) with AVG's e-mail scanner auto settings so i had to configure AVG's e-mail scanner manually (set t-bird to 127.0.0.1 port xxx, etc. etc. etc) to get things back up and running.

Some will and some won't. MS has not specified what all the variables are.

Some of it has to do with a patch that went in last week. It is a high priority patch that cannot be denied.

I have recovered with a 1/03/08 Complete PC backup I made. That patch has not been delivered.

Possibly we'll never know how significant this was. SP1 is not available to the general public at this time. I download it from MSDN today.

I have recovered my disk and immediately removed my system from the net. SP1 appears to have gone in OK.

As a result SP1 has just gone. There are work arounds if you hit the condition IF you have a bootable vista disk or make a bootable NTFS disk.

If you have vista Business, Ultimate or Enterpise I would strongly recommend backing up your system disk prior to installing SP1 in the foreseeable future.

If you get into the situation of endless BSODs you can recover via a bootable disk or your backup.

My SP1 installation just completed... however... I have not idea what's going to happen if that patch comes down. I am going to assue it will be ok. I think the bad patch excutes a bad code path only when installing.

Vista SP1 x64 is being distributed via MS update right now (that's how I received it) so it appears that it is now available to the general public.

I have the problem patch (KB937287) installed on my system as well as Vista SP1 x64 and have no apparent troubles.

I bet you have restore points on?

How does that affect things? Would the system have reverted to a pre KB937287 state without my knowledge? If so, how could I install Vista SP1 x64 via Windows Update (KB936330). I've read the issues with patch KB937287 which was supposed to enable installation of Vista SP1 and frankly was quite surprised to see Vista SP1 x64 arriving as an update this morning. I figured what the heck I might as well give it a shot and other than the quirky bsod that cancelled the first installation attempt, things installed great.

FWIW I do have system restore enabled.

running cmd, winver shows build 6001 in the about windows box (actually shows Version 6.0 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1)), so unless it could revert to a previous restore point without my knowledge and fail to change the about windows information I have to assume I'm running Vista SP1 x64. As for the problem patch, other than having the update log show it as installed I have no real way of verifying that it is in fact installed.

My SP1 service pack installed with failure on CLEANALLSERVICEPOINTS.
I didn't have restorepoints on. I don't use them as I do backups with Vista Complete PC restore and I used that to recover. My backup was before the defective patch came out.

It looked to me as if it was possibly attempting to delete previous restore points? I honestly don't know. Stop and think about it. If restore points look at version numbers, many will have changed because of SP1.

When I use System in the control panel, it shows simple SP1. That should tell you that it is installed.

I didn't know that they are installing SP1 by automatic updates because they weren't supposed to begin before March. That's intersting.

    It is interesting.

Here's a screen capture of my windows update log and the about windows information box. I shrunk it from 1440x900 to 1280x800 so it's a bit blurry, but you can still see the initial failed installation attempt which shows cancelled in the update log as well as the apparent successful installation of the troublesome pre-sp1 update patch KB937287.

Perhaps you should try installing SP1 via Windows Update. Although given the spotty reports maybe it's best to wait. Is your Vista installation a clean install?

    This is totally strange.

I think I put in Vista 64 right around New years. I have hardly any updates at all and I have 6 optional updates waiting which really are optional.

When I did the Install I began with a clean MSDN install.. I installed some of the lenovo software, mostly drivers. I have no idea why I'm showing next to no updates. Windows updates are certainly on and I did check for updates and my update log looks nothing like yours. Microsoft is telling me I have no new updates to install. Microsoft update service is enabled. And my loh looks nothing like yours.

At the same time my system plate show SP1. I didn't install sp1 via the net. I downloaded and executable from MSDN and my system showed that.

Perhaps you have a version of vista that already had most of the updates streamlined into it. I used a MS anytime upgrade disc that I ordered through MS about 4 weeks ago (received it about 3 weeks ago) and have been running this clean install for about 11 or 12 days.

    I really don't.

I installed it from an MSDN RTM distribution. I haven't had my laptop on a lot since I updated it and it is set to update at 3:00 am. I really should change that.

When I use winver... it says exactly the same thing yours does so I guess everything is ok, the patches should show up sooner or later.
