Want to buy a new (new for me) laptop and can't decide between the x230 and x220.
    I can probably get x230 for ~£240 while X220 for ~£130 , so roughly 2x price difference.
They are pretty much the same except the videocard for x230 is better,is that the only difference? ( don't care about keyboard style)

which one you would get if you just wanted to get one cheap as possible but yet want a powerful laptop with what you can replace your Desktop pc and run 2 external monitors with it?

Apart from the minor GPU bump you get more native USB 3.0 ports as standard on the X230, the X220 has the USB 3.0 port if you go for the Core i7 offering. Whether you find USB 3.0 useful is down to you, I don't use much of USB 3.0 myself as I prefer using eSATA connection instead when doing large file transfers.

Performance wise there are marginal differences between the Sandy Bridge (xx20) and Ivy Bridge (xx30) systems, for everyday tasks such as internet browsing and office work most likely you wouldn't be able to distinguish between the two. Both systems have GPU's that are capable of multi display setup depending whether you are using a dock system or displayport adapter.

Personally I go with the X220 and pocket the £100 difference, you could even use the money you saved to buy a nice SSD or bump up the RAM depending on the configuration.

+1, presuming both machines are IPS-equipped.

Don't care about keyboard style? Have you tried both? There is a lot of difference if you do use keyboard a lot. Yeah, go for the X220 on top of the saving in cost you get a bonus in the form of the superior keyboard feel.

haven't even seen either of the laptops in person so wouldn't know, but Im looking to use it as just a regular pc most of the time plugged to 2 external monitors and seperate keyboard/mouse so doesn't really matters to me that much.

Also whats the talk that you must have ips panel? there are hardly any laptops ever for sale with that screen, I have used regular screens ever since and they are just fine...

They are only "fine" because you've never used an IPS panel. For most of us who have seen/used both, it's next to impossible to go back to TN.

    Good price.

The best of luck with your upcoming X230.

Finally arrived my new x230, Turned out to be way better than expected.
200pounds for 14hours used laptop in New condition :D

Seriously The regular display is just ok, an amazing laptop overall. The resulution of it is also fine, though would be too small but its actually ok for this size of an laptop!
Will put in an ssd and extra 4gb ram to make it 8gb and will sell of my old Large PC and use this instead of it.

I agree. The IPS screen is a really nice upgrade. Once you see them side by side you can see why folks say that.

Seems like you got a good deal on your laptop! Good luck.

I'm not sure how you use the touchpad. For guestures it's definitely small, but I've actually have really good luck it after a couple of mods. First, I'd make sure you have the latest Synaptics drivers. Mostly though, I use the touchpad for 2 finger scrolling. Downloading the 2 finger scroll app from hear made it worlds better: TwoFingerScroll v1.0.7 update! (two finger scrolling done right! + more) | TabletPCReview.com - Tablet PC Reviews, Discussion and News

Lastly, the original touchpad had this really annoying trait where there was 2mm or so of free play before anything happened. I shimmed it with a piece of paper (removing the palm rest) and that solved it. Eventually, I replaced the palm rest and touch pad after they just kinda wore out from use, and the new one didn't have this play in it. Now, I actually find the touchpad pretty good--but small.
