    Hallo,
is there an alternative way for using the WWAN card (3G) build into my ThinkPad T400 without Lenovo's Access Connection Tool?

    Thanks for help!

yes, the intel utility set will be sufficient. Never used it myself, but love access connections. any reason why you don't want to use it? just curious

I don't really like Access Connection. If I for exmaple use it to connect to a WLAN-Network, I have to specify which encryption the network uses. Other tools (e. g. the build-in Windows WLAN tool) recognizes automatically which encryption is used and just asks for a key. I think, that's a lot easier than the Lenovo tool. Or am I doing something completely wrong here?

Does the Intel tool really work for WWAN/UMTS/3G-connections? I thought it was for LAN and WLAN only....

okay, first off, I know intel comes with the driver set but haven't been using it myself, so dunno
second, I never had to specify what type of encryption for access conn. so really baffled at that.
uninstall and reinstall the latest version?

Reinstalling Access Connection didn't help. Whenever I try to connect to a secured WLAN, Access connection says, "Unable to connect to the selected wireless network. You may need to configure your system to support the authentication method that is in use. Do you want to configure now?"

When I press "no" nothing happens and I am not connected to the WLAN. If I press "yes" the Access Connection profile Editor shows up and asks me to select the proper encryption. That's really not very comfortable.

If I could fix this problem and get Access Connection to automatically detect the encryption I could just stick with Access Connection and wouldn't have to switch.

Any more suggestions? Thanks a lot!

Don't feel bad, "access connections" crashes on me everytime I try to launch it.
BTW there is a update to AC I think its 5.02 might try that?,.

I am running Access Connection 5.12 for Windows XP. That seems to be the latest version.

Is anyone out there who has the same problem with Access Connection? Or is my Access Connection the only one that can't detected the used encryption? Maybe I should open a new Thread for that question?

My lappy is running Vista 64 bit with Access Connections 5.02.

The menu that comes up when I click on the system tray icon asks me to choose the encryption type but when choose Access Connections from the start menu it automatically picks up the encryption type being used and only asks me for the key. Works fine either way I configure my wireless connection.

Edit: I've used Intel's connection software, it works fine.
