When I bought my laptop I noticed that it came with a Vodafone sim preinstalled, and Vodafone plastered on the bottom of the machine (stickers). This was unfortunate, as I work for Three (Australia) and get free internet on my phone's sim.
Trying a Three sim in the Lenovo WWAN software brought up that it didn't work, and I should contact my service provider (which I hope nobody ever does, because we don't really have a manual for the Lenovo machines in our systems). I called Lenovo though, and googled a bit, but didn't find much information, and lacked the effort to look further.
The past week I was sick though (still am, hence rambling), and so tried to figure out a solution, having heard that the module wasn't sim locked. I managed to connect by manually setting up a dial up connection, but things seemed unusually slow and wouldn't show me stats like signal strength or the network I was using (important, because if I was roaming I'd be charged).
After a bit more searching, I found Sony Ericcson's Wireless Manager software, which, although not mentioning that it works with the f3507g module, did work. I thought I'd share this with you all as I never actually saw ANYWHERE say that it would work. I just cancelled the installation before the driver installed (it comes prepackaged with a device driver for whatever card you select on the SE website).
It also comes with numerous preconfigured connection profiles for around the world.
I used the latest (as far as I can see) version from here.
Previous versions are available from here.
I think I've done something to it though, and it needs a reinstall, so anyone feel free to add their two bits.

I think I actually came across your howto, newhren. But alas, I'm too stubborn to try something like Linux
Thanks for the heads up though.
