I may reorder a T500, buh i am still deciding which screen option is a better choice. I read some posts from other forums saying that the wsxga+ screen is crappy. I don't care about the resolution. Other than that, does it make a significant difference between those in terms of brightness? How about in terms of quality?(colour washed out, viewing angle....) can anyone provide me a detailed explaination, cuz if led is a better option, i am gonna cancel my w500 and order the t500.

The T500 doesn't have an LED option, only the T400 does. I got a T400, and the screen is wicked. If you can manage with a 14", I would go T400 with LED.

    is that a big difference?

15.4 WXGA TFT with LED Backlight [add $31.87]
    15.4 WSXGA+ TFT [add $47.81]

that's why i am confused, the wsxga+ needs another 15 bucks for upgrade.I don't care about that 15 bucks more. I suppose wsxga+ is a better screen.
For wsxga+, is it bright enough for you to look at it under direct sunlight?

From the spreadsheet, it saids they both have 129dpi and 200+ nit.
Does it mean they have the same brightness? What's dpi and nit?

On lenovo website in canada, the T500 screen options don't have "w/ CCFL Backlight", so it doesn't come with it if i order in canada?

Well the WSXGA+ doesn't have an LED backlight as of yet. I don't know if there ever will be a WSXGA+ LED screen. It's kind of puzzling because the T400 has a WXGA+ LED screen and it's higher res than the LED screen offered on the T500. I think there is a huge demand for a WSXGA+ LED screen so hopefully it's on its way.

I would definitely recommend waiting and praying for Lenovo to release a WSXGA+ LED screen. But if you're not concerned with resolution or need a lot of screen real estate, I would go for the WXGA+ LED. From what I've seen, the LED looks significantly better than CCFL screens and this discrepancy is only going to increase as the CCFL screens age and dim.

You might even want to wait a little to see when and how much Lenovo drops the price on the T500 w/ discrete graphics. The W500 got that treatment already and ended up being cheaper than the T500, so Lenovo needs to fix that soon!

even if the fact is WXGA with LED not WXGA+ LED, still go for LED screen?
cuz i am in front of a 19 inch screen with 1024 by 768 setting, actually i am pretty satisfied with the size of the font and stuff.

Oops I meant to say WXGA LED, you're right. Anyway, if 1024x768 looks good to you on a 19 inch screen, the WXGA LED is definitely right for you!

Wxga+ looks tiny on my t400

it would look great on a 15" and you would get LED. so go for it (im used to xga on my 15'' desktop)

thanks for your advice! i think i am going for t500 with led option.
Just one quick question before i made the decision , how much extra time it gives if i choose p8400 over t9400?

Performance wise, any noticeable difference between them? I will do some videoediting and a little gaming on it. Or do i need the intel turbo 2gb memory for video editing?

Last question, pc card slot or smart card slot?

I'm also on the fence about T500 with WXGA LED BL or W500 with stronger CPU and Videocard with WSXGA+ CCFL. I haven't heard anything about the WSXGA+ screen being crappy, but there were some posts about the WUXGA screen being crappy and very dim.

About the pc card slot or smart card slot, most people probably would choose the pc card slot. The smart card slot is just for security purposes, where you use an ID card on it to be able to use the laptop I think (like fingerprint reader). So unless you use smartcards, it's not going to be useful for you.

    inter turbo memory? nah.

you may benefit from the extra l2 cache

but I got the t9400 and wouldn't mind getting back $100 for a p8400 and some extra battery time...ive done some video encoding and some gaming on the t400 and I can say that its nothing special

For me, the T500 with less powerful parts but LED backlight costs just as much as a more powerfully configed W500 with WSXGA+ CCFL.

As personal tastes go, I much prefer the WXGA+ on my T400...although I understand it is small for some, I'm glad they offered WXGA+ but I'm already used to a SXGA+ (1400x1050). Anything lower seems like a waste of the screen size...it's nice being able to compare 2 word docs without toggling between them...and although i don't game a lot, it's nice playing Sim City 4 at 1440x900 native...and my eyes aren't great, but can read the WXGA+ resolution just fine without my glasses.
