    Hi everyone,

I decided to buy a T61 a couple days ago using the one day coupon. I'm pretty excited for it to arrive, but one thing I have been second guessing is my choice in screen resolution. At first, I thought that WSXGA+ might be too small for my eyes, which is why I opted for WXGA. I'm used to using XP on a 14.1" WXGA screen, and while I like the size of text (for example, on desktop items) I wish I had a little more room to work with. Moving to a 15.4" WXGA will likely just make everything a little larger than what I'm used to, so my question is if I went with WSXGA+, would it be a drastic step in the other direction? Will it make watching movies nicer?

    Thanks for your help!

Screen resolution is a personal thing and in fact I went back and fourth between what I thought was too small and what wasn't. Personally I think WXGA is useless, unless all you want to do is game heavy. There is just not enough screen realestate for me. I have WSXGA+ and I love it. I would have made a big mistake if I went for a lower res screen. I have horrible eyesight and I can see the screen just fine with no problems. I do watch movies on my screen and I really like the way they look on this high res monitor. In fact for my next machine I am most likely going to go WUXGA.

I also like my WSXGA+ screen. At first it felt very small to me, and it took me a little bit to get used to the size. However, now I love it, and I can't stand larger resolutions like WXGA on 15.4" laptops. If you want to compare resolutions you could always go to Best Buy or something and look at laptops with different resolutions. I know my next laptop will be WSXGA+.

I've been on a 14.1" with WXGA+ screen for a longer while. It is nice and sharp, but can't help feeling things are too small on the screen for my eyes. WXGA definatly feel nicer for the eyes.

I am considering the new T500 with either WXGA or WSXGA+ screen. I am leaning towards the WXGA, it will be nicer for movies and games as well.

Sorry, I'm a little confused now. How do movies/games look better on a WXGA compared to a WSXGA+? I would have thought it to be the other way around...

That depends on the real resolution of the videos. If the video is HD with a very high resolution, then yeah the WSXGA+ will look better. Any movies/games with a resolution lower than the WSXGA+'s native resolution, I guess the WXGA will look better since it's closer to its native resolution. Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong about this though.

This has been an issue at work. Our replacement notebooks are coming in with the WSXGA+ screens (our T42 and T43s had XGA screeens) and a lot of users dislike them because "eveything is so small". Most of us have docks and 19" monitors that we use in the office, but many of the travellers haven't been happy.

The screens are nice looking, don't get me wrong, but the squinting....we're a bunch of old farts. :)
