So I am on a budget right now, but I can definitely wait for the next generation. As of now the release date is unknown. Also I can buy last generation from their site for only $810 (with student discount).

From what it looks like, the only difference between the two is the body and it will have sky lake. So is it worth sky lake and the new body for an extra $300+ for next generation? Or should I take advantage of the cheap offer now?

The reason I am getting this is for school and some very light gaming, the gt 940m which will also be in the next generation. And I doubt skylake will make much of a difference with games.

    Thank you in advance!

What the...? How did you find this? I asked Lenovo's customer service a couple of times and they said they didn't know when they would be selling them. Well then I guess it's $190 extra for skylake and an ssd. Unless bestbuy does a student discount but I doubt it.

It's worth the price difference imo, I grabbed one for school when bestbuy accidentally released this model in mid October. 6200u gets similar performance to a 5500u, but uses less power, so just taking notes and light browsing at 25% brightness I get around 9-10 hours of battery life. this model also has a built in pen that recharges itself inside the chassis, which is a nice feature for enhanced note taking.

Oh I didn't even know they added a pen this generation, I'll have to look into it then. So is that what happened then, BestBuy released it early or something? Thank you for the response. One thing I found about this model was that someone posted on the Lenovo forums saying they had to return it because of the track pad being so terrible. Apparently Lenovo went with a different track pad then the normal synaptics one. What is your experience with it?

trackpad is fine to me but the problem people are having is that they're used to a previous gen thinkpad then come to this thinkpad and it's a little different I guess. I use a Logitech anywhere mouse most of the time. in class I use the touch pad and I don't have problems with it, except in chrome. chrome does scroll way too fast, but there's a workaround to fix it that I found in a thread in tabletpcreview forums.

and it's not an early release now, but apparently the street date for the Best Buy model was this week. but they released it around the 17th, took it down a few days later, then put it back up like 2 days ago. was a weird situation.

Huh well that's strange. Well thank you for the help. I definitely think it might be worth it now.
