Lenovo has some good deals on the machine I want second most, the x201. Loaded (but for the SSD option), it can be had for a grand. I'm wondering if at this point it makes sense to hold off till after CES. (My number one option would be the T410s, in case you're interested. ;))

You want to wait till after the CES to buy a x201 in the expectation that the prices will fall further?

By waiting for the new models to come out, he hopes that the prices of the old ones will fall further.

Kind of like cars: When the 2011 models roll in to dealerships, the 2010 models get cheaper.

After new models are released, the prices of current models will be reduced, so if you have your eyes set on a certain Thinkpad currently available, then you can expect prices to fall after the new Thinkpads are announced/made available for order.

I think you should wait till after Ces, They might release a major update for the x series, i.e. increase the quality of their laptop screen or update to a major processor. The new laptop will likely be with the Sandy Bridge, which is rumor to have a much better gpu. I wouldn't keep my hope up about Lenovo improving their screen quality. As for discount, you won't see alot of discount even if you buy it after the new version is release; must likely you will see prices higher than black friday discounts.

Sandy Bridge notebooks with dual cores will not be announced until February. Intel is only allowing quad cored SB notebooks to be shown off at CES.

I am sure the price of the X201 (and T410s and SSDs for that matter) will drop after CES (the one in my sig with the SSD cost less then 1K).

I am sure someone will offer you a X201 via PM for less then a grand (^_~)wink!
