Ive heard from a couple of people waiting for their notebook to arrive that the long build time is due to memory shortage. I called lenovo last night and my rep told me the same thing. Does anyone have anymore information on this? Someone hear anything about when it will be restocked? Thx for the help guys.

I am waiting for my T60. I ordered on 11/21 and the estimated delivery date is now 12/28 because of the memory backorder. Although I called up, and the rep told me the memory situation has been resolved, and I should expect my delivery to be 2 weeks from the order date. Although the online order status has not been updated to reflect this.

Hopefully the rep is right, 12/28 seems like a long, long way away. If I really need to wait that long, I would seriously consider waiting another month or so until Santa Rosa is released.

Hey brock, when did you get confirmation that the memory issue is over? They told me about the memory problem monday night 11/27.

When I changed my configuration last week sometime, they said they thought it might be over, then they said the same thing when I called Monday and I was told 2 weeks. Some of the reps are not as knowledgeable as others. For instance, when I originally ordered they told me N wireless was no longer available, I called the next day and a new rep said it was available and changed my order accordingly.

Bleh, I hope it's over..I need to get my 11/16 order by the 8th. I'm trying not to get my hopes up...

I have to say that it seems pretty silly running a sale on memory when you're having a shortage, though!

This is odd. I ordered literally on the exact same day as you(11/21), and mine shipped today! It was scheduled to arrive on the 12th, but obviously with two day shipping it should be here by next monday at the latest.

Shipping has a lot to do with what parts you picked. Building from scratch is cheaper but its a much longer wait.

My buddy order 3 T60s, I believe all w/ 1 GB of ram. All were built and shipped from HK within 5 business days of ordering. This was back in early November. I just order a Z61t, w/ 1 GB of ram...est ship date is Dec 29th. I hope it doesn't get pushed any further. Who's recently received a laptop and when did you order? Thanks! I can't wait!

When I called last week they told me the delay was for both 1GB and 512MB sticks of ram. Its probable that they got a shipment of 1GB ram sticks and thats why you see all these 1GB notebooks being shipped out. I am personally waiting for a 1.5GB machine. Im at work today so if anyone else has time (or a job that allows them time lol) to get more info from lenovo it would be much appreciated. I was banking on getting this thing before christmas.

When did you order your laptop? What number do you call to get info on the approximate delay for the ram? When I talked to sales, they sure gave me the impression that they have no clue as to when it'll ship, and I certainly didn't bother asking about any delays due to memory shortages.

I heard the delay was for 512 and 1gb ram sticks. Maybe they solved the 512 problem and not the 1gb? Who knows.

(Santa Rosa is the new and upcoming motherboard from Intel. It has onboard flash memory, 800 front side bus, and N wireless. I have read it could be released as soon as Jan. 30. There are some discussions on the forums here is you want more info.)

Im with the previous poster that said that some reps are more knowledgable then others. I called 13 reps to get quotes and each one gave me a different one. My quotes ranged from $1182 (the price i paid) to $1700. When I called back the rep that gave me the good deal and asked him about my notebook he informed me that I was delayed due to memory shortages. If anyone has a good rep or someone on the inside it would be appreciated to know the situation since I bought the laptop for my girlfriend for christmas. I figured a month and some days in advance would be fine.

So my order for a z61t was made 11/24. today I called and they are "building it". Now in order to build they have to have all the parts there, which means the ram would be there. So I'm guessing hopefully by next monday it would be shipped out, because it takes about 3-5 bus days to build. Then from there a week to be here? So basically I think I could receive it as soon as Dec 11th. a whole 2 weeks earlier than expected.
BTW there est ship date was dec 27.

Everyone who gets released by the credit card company (you get approved) moves on to "in process". If u spoke to a rep that isnt informed he/she will tell you that you have been released and your machine is being built. However, you need a rep that looks at the individual parts to see if they are available. Thats how I found out monday that memory was out of stock. Has anyone called yet (maybe ask for a supervisor) to get the real word?

Wow that sucks, I was assuming he knew what he was talking about.
Shouldn't their order status page be updated every day to reflect where your order is currently at. So if mine is indeed being buillt right now, it shouldnt say "In Process"?

i believe that it stays in process until the day it ships. I've been in process for a week now. I will try to call after work and ask for a supervisor. If anyone else has time feel free to do it and post some answers!!!

My concern is that my rep never told me about lenovo giving me such a far away ship date. Before i purchased the machine I was told that 8-10 days to build it AT THE MOST and 5-7 days to ship it AT THE MOST. That means my computer should arrive at THE LATEST 3-4 business weeks after my order. My SHIPPING date is 4 and a half business weeks away from purchase date. SO if my shipping date is correct it will take me 5-6 business weeks to get my laptop which falls way past christmas. I know that laptops ship early sometimes BUT when your rep guarantees something especially when its costing you over 1000 dollars you should get what you paid for. Furthermore you should at least be told each step of the way in your order status page whats going on with your order. Customers want to know where there money is going.

coz007, I am going to call lenovo right now and try and speak with a supervisor and get to the bottom of this. If you could do the same, and hopefully we get the same answer, then i think that should be enough proof to determine whether there really are delays or not. I will post as soon as I get off the phone.

OK, the rep and supervisor both said there is still a "constraint" on memory. She said that she would call and talk to a supply coordinator to get a more accurate shipping date, then call me back. When that happens, I will post the results.

Well i work in a health related field where cell phones are prohibited so my phone call will have to wait until i get home around 5:30-6:00ish. Make sure when they call back to find out:

    1. What exactly does "constraint" mean. (is there enough for the november orders and the december orders will suffer?)

    2. how long the "constraint" will last.

Just try and get an overall feeling of when this memory drought will end and when everything will be back to normal. I mean the memory drought has lasted a few weeks as I can tell.

I already got a call back (before I read the last post), but here is what I found out.

    -there is a memory "constraint"
-my order (11/21, 2GB of RAM) will ship out on 12/19 at the latest, possibly earlier.
-If I call the supervisor when I get an email saying the order has been shipped, they said they would call UPS and try to expedite the shipping. They cannot upgrade it to 2-day now because it would involve canceling the order and slowing it down even further.

So your date was the 28th and now its the 19th (maybe earlier). I only ordered 1.5G of ram and my date is the 25th. Did your order status page change from the 28th to the 19th, did the supervisor move up your date OR was the shipping date an exaggeration (just in case date). Im so confused I wish i could just call and not be stuck at work.

My original estimated shipping date was something like 12/12 when i first ordered on 11/21. That quickly got pushed back to 12/28, which is what it still shows. The supervisor I called today told me a more accurate estimated shipping date would be 12/19.

I recommend calling and asking for a supervisor like I did, then suggest that the supervisor ask the supply coordinator for a more accurate date. You can also try to get expedited shipping like I did. Let me know what they tell you if you call.

so im pretty much in the same situation that you are. My original ship date was the 21 but then it got pushed back to the 25th. I will call and ask to speak to someone that can get information from a supply coordinator. Brock did u call the 866-96-think number? I orignally wanted to buy my laptop a few days earlier but had to cancel so that I could put it on my American express card. Wanted that extra year of warranty. Good luck with yours man I'll keep this thread posted after I get my answer. Post if you hear anything new THANKS!!!

    hey coz and brock,
so to my previous post this morning, the guy i talked to was WRONG. the guy i just called said mine is sitting actually waiting for the z61t titanium shell and the ram, and instead of a 12/27 ship he thinks it would be about mid december.

I just took a break and called my represenative. According to him the ram is back ordered about 2 weeks. He said he worked the christmas holday last year and it was a much bigger disaster and people still got their laptops at a reasonable time. When I asked him about my status he said it was "packing up" which i guess means being built. He says I should have my laptop around the same time as you brock December 20th or so.

The estimated ship date for my T60 hasn't budged from 12/19 since I ordered on 11/16. Needless to say, I won't be happy if I don't get it until after Christmas. When I ordered, the rep said it would take about 3 weeks.

How many of you ordered through the Student website?

I'm asking cuz I did and was charged shipping but on the website it says free shipping. I'm going to call and ask them to remove the shipping charges...anyone else done this?

I have the same situation from the Student site. I called twice, the first Sales rep said since it is ordered from the student website, so it charged the shipping. I argue with him that the site stated free shipping and handling. So I hung up and call second time. This time the sales rep said if I want to cancel the shipping now, it needs to remake the whole order and it will delay my order. He said the best way is to call back when you get your laptop, call back the CS and ask them to reverse it back to my credit card. I don't quite buy it, but still deciding if I should just remake the order.....

I called today about my z61t 9440d9u ordered thru the normal site. (1.5GB RAM, 100MB 5400rpm drive, dvd writer). I liked what I heard at the time, but now I'm wondering. He said my notebook was "being packed." That sounded good! And it would be shipped Wednesday the 6th, arriving Friday (why? I did not ask for expedited shippiing). I started thinking, being packed for a week? What, are they out of tape? :D Maybe he is just reading the status page that has said 12/6 since I ordered (11/10). Or maybe coz007 has it right and "packing" means "building" in Lenovo jargon.

Well, I won't bug them again unless the date changes to farther out, or the 6th comes and goes and the site doesn't say shipped. I can't really deal with it any earlier than the 13th anyway. Just don't want it delayed past the holiday break.

I made sure to get the the correct meaning of "packing", It definately means building. Once its packing you should expect 8-10 business day but with the ram delay that could be an extra week or two.

My laptop was Ordered Nov 9th.

Estimated Ship date on the Status Page is 12/05.One email I received said it would ship 11/30 (today - ahahahaaha!) ... Recently they are telling me 12/14 or 12/15 depending on whom I speak to.

This is extremely silly. I asked if I could have it either shipped w/o memory, or reduce to a single 256MB chip. I can go buy 2 1G chips faster than they can, apparently.

Oh well -- I'll never order a ThinkPad again at this rate.

I happened to check the order status page on the Lenovo web site this morning (I had gotten curious after reading this thread.) and was surprised to see this statement: Status: Shipped on 11/30/2006. more info

Clicking for more info, I got the following message:
Your order has left our fulfillment center. Use the track shipment button, which will be available the morning after shipment, for information about the carrier and your tracking number. Your delivery date will be determined by the ship date and the shipping method you selected at checkout. Actual delivery times may vary.

Once I see the tracking number, I will believe it.

There may be hope for me to get my laptop before the 9th after all! I doubt it, though, as my sales rep advised me today that I shouldn't expect it to ship until the middle of next week. I ordered on 11/16. He said at that time I should expect it in 3 weeks or so. The status page has been telling me the 12/19 would be the day since I ordered it.

I feel left out of the excitement/disappointment cycle of changing ship dates.

So....Its a memory backorder eh? That sucks. I ordered mine Nov. 2, got an estimated ship date of Nov 27 (Which I thought was a little high). I cant wait for mine and finally the estimated ship date arrives and I get an e-mail from them that says its on hold for parts. I check the ship date, its now changed to the 12th of december. What is wrong with these people. Its a good thing I didnt REALLY need it. And it took them the entire 3 weeks for them to figure out that there wasnt any memory left for my notebook? Idiots. At least I know what it is now. Mine came standard with the fingerprint scanner, I thought maybe it was that that was on hold for parts. I was gonna call em and tell em to leave the stupid thing off and give me my laptop. They still havent charged my credit card though. Which is a plus I guess.

Momo, I don't know exactly when santa rosa (aka crestline, 965) will be released. I read somewhere that they might release is the same day as vista (Jan. 30 2007) but I have also read Q2 2007 and 2H 2007, so...who knows.

As for the backorders, thanks to everyone for contributing your order status. Hopefully we will see more people posting that there orders have shipped, and then the memory constraint will be over.

I ordered mine on 11/15/2006. I got the UPS tracking number this morning. It was shipped from somewhere in Hong Kong. So a few more days will be taken to get to the States.

I have a 512 MB and an 1 GB memory stick. It does not appear that mine took two weeks to get built for other than memory shortage.

I placed my t60 order on 11/16; order status is still showing est shipping date of 12/19. The config is 2613HJU, 1.5G ram, CDR-DVDcombo, 80G HDD.

1st phonecall (apprx 11/20) "memory is on backorder."
2nd phonecall (apprx 11/27) "memory was on backorder, but it is mostly resolved."
3rd phonecall (12/01) "T60 is very popular, and there was a slight backorder problem with the SHELL." When inquired about the status of the backorder, the CSR said that the problem has been resolved. When asked to give an "idea" when the computer should come, he said "probably by the end of next week."

Also, I've found that general CSR (press 0 when you call) is more helpful than status CSR (press 1 when you call). They go to the next step to check which part is holding up the order.
