I wanted to know if its possible to add bluetooth to my x61 even after i had asked for no bluetooth with my order. I heard its possible to eventually play games with the ps3 bluetooth controller. And not to mention the uses of bluetooth with the laptop.

So im curious..do i need to send the laptop back to lenovo? Or can i get a chip part and just install it myself ?

Hmm, not really sure. Why not use the card slot? It'll even feel better, rather than being empty.

I am pretty sure that you can buy the card and install it yourself.

I believe the Bluetooth card is a Bluetooth/Modem combo card. Call Lenovo and see if you can order one from them.

Yes, It would have been cheaper to upgrade to BT when you ordered the machine.

You will also need the LCD cable assembly with bluetooth.

Weird making two different cable-assemblys with the only difference beeing a tiny socket.

The BT-cable (91P6971) were really expensive $30+, so I guess it's not worth it unless you really want internal bluetooth.

hate beating this subject again. So there are two types of cables, BT and non-BT support, right? I will have to pop open my LCD, but if anyone tried to upgrade their X61 to BT, please let me know. I am hoping it's a standard LCD cable that could support BT.

    Many thanks

the modem card (assuming its combo'ed with bluetooth) is to the left of the wifi card which has 3 cables that run to the LCD.

edit: nevermind i thought you had a t61. not sure about the x61. but I am pretty sure it cant be too off

You can just buy a USB bluetooth adapter which saves you having to open up your system and you can find them pretty cheap

For USB Bluetooth, the best one I have seen is a little Kensington that just barely sticks out of the port, almost as small as the Logitech Nano mouse adapter. I used it on my work laptop and iMac and it works great. I like the internal ones better, but that one is almost as good, as long as you can spare the USB port.

    Here is another bluetooth option

    http://www.newtonperipherals.com/mogo_dapter.html

If you want to spend any less you can get this for 11 bucks:
    http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/micro-bluetooth-dongle/

....I know on the T6x' series the Bluetooth adapter is locatet on the bezel, On the older X series (i.e. X41) the bluetooth card sat on the motherboard and was as easy to remove as the wifi card. You should probably take a look at the hardware repair manual and see where exactly the bluetooth card is located....If its on the motherboard it would be very easy to install (very similar to a RAM install). Also beware that some thinkpads have a propensity to display the UNATHOURIZED CARD error on bootup. I think this has been fixed with the latest crop of Thinkpads, but I am not sure. I know that my T60P is very sensitive to replacing any of the internal card with different ones. You might have to do a bios hack.

That is the one that I have. It works pretty good. The only negative is that it has the Toshiba stack which isn't as good as others, so I just use the default drivers.
