After following the Clean XP guide and installing XP, do not press Fn+F5.
The computer will not wake and hang still at XP screen. EVEN AFTER RESTART
Right not I'm trying to resolve the issue. Maybe this could work:

EDIT: T400, of course.
EDIT: Fn+F4 (standby)
-
alright i think wake on LAN has nothing to do with this
i need help, anyone????? -
Well... try safe mode. But I don't think pressing those keys is what caused the problem.
-
safe mode didn't work
-
Where does it stop when loading safe mode?
-
same place (log on)
cannot see users
alt+tab gives two options : log-on, welcome to logon -
im going to re-install
-
Hit control alt delete delete (so hold control and alt then double tap delete).
See if it brings up the Windows 2000 style log on box (it should) -
is there any way to disable the "Fn" key so this wont happen again?
-
I'm not convinced that this was caused by pressing the function key. Isn't Fn+F5 the wifi switch on thinkpads? I don't actually own one.
-
but did neither restart or logon prompt -
Fn+F5 gives me wireless radios screen where I turn off Bluetooth and keep only Wifi on. My 4 cell battery lasts 2:30 hours on normal surfing only.

I think I figured it out: BLUETOOTH DRIVERS
I don't think they work. As soon as I installed the drivers (from IBM) the computer started acting up. Now that I remember, when I pressed the Fn+F4 on the last XP installation, it would not wake up. (DIRECTLY AFTER INSTALLING BLUETOOTH)
And now....Start-up takes 15min!!! I can't find a way to remove the drivers (tried Device manager, control panel > add remove progs, directions from IBM)
There seems to be a problem with bluetooth devices and VISTA:
http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=5520
but I guess with XP as well.
Anyone else try installing Bluetooth on their T400 (clean XP)? -
yes bluetooth is working fine on my win XP. Here's the link I used http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/7vba07ww.exe
-
UPDATE: on my thirds clean install everything seems to be working fine
at least for me... SKIP BLUETOOTH
Warning: Fn+F5 on XP
