So, I just took delivery of my new Thinkpad T61p with the new T9300 and Vista Home Premium. As of now, everything is running flawlessly and I am extremely happy with the performance and build quality with this machine. Keyboard and touchpad are all up to snuff and keep the reputation that Thinkpads are meant to have.

However, one thing I am unhappy with is the screen. It is grainy, but that's not much of a bother. The issue here is the ridiculous light leakage towards the bottom of the screen. I mean, black does not look like black when there's that much light leaking. My question is, what are the chances that this will warrant an exchange from IBM? My model number is LTN154P2-L05 which is the 15.4" Samsung WSXGA+.

From IBM? 'zero' - IBM doesn't sell computers anymore.. From Lenovo? Probably somewhere in between 'not much' and 'zero'. The light bleed at the bottom is a universal 'feature' of the current generation of Tpad screens... You can send it back, however, and they will evaluate it for you. If they decide it meets their exacting specifications, they will just send it back to you. Personally, it doesn't bother me, since the screen is never black when I am using it.

Not true... i have a 15'' wsxga+ and it has zero leakage (LG)

You know in some ways he was right... it's actually IBM giving the support.

Thanks for the info. I watched that video on how Lenovo got rid of the IBM badging, but was thinking... people will still associate Thinkpads with IBM and not Lenovo.

And I think the service is actually outsourced to a third party now, even if you get an 'IBM' call center... The light leakage is a funny thing - some people are really bothered by it, and some people say 'what light leakage?'
