recycle the box.   you won't need it for service claims.

cut it off the box if you want to save it.   it's not needed for service claims but isn't a bad thing to keep.

I suppose they can use my SS# if they need to identify me I would assume for warranty repairs.

warranty is tied to the machine type and serial number, not the owner.   since those can be found on the bottom of the system and in the BIOS, you have everything you need as long as the system is in your possession.

I would keep the sticker that has all the specs on the laptop. I saved mine and it came in handy after a botched repair that gave me a wrong CPU and Lenovo couldn't find my machine number.

I like to save my notebook boxes because I know sometime down the road I'm going to sell it. It's nice to have the box for shipping purposes.

I would save it but I have 0 space for anything. I checked the bottom of it and I didnt see a serial right off hand.

Some newer thinkpad have them inside the battery compartment. Just remove the battery and you will see it.

I cut off the sticker with all the numbers so either way Ill have my serials handy if I'm ever asked them over the phone. Such a pritty box the Y460 comes in, orange is my favorite color lol.

I returned mine for warranty repair in a priority mail flat rate box, they fixed it just fine. Serial number is on the bottom of the machine, and in the BIOS as well but a bricked BIOS was the whole reason for the repair. I would write down that information before throwing the box out in any event, as the sticker on the bottom of the computer seems to be of low quality and wears off very quickly.

Save the box for 21 days; recycle it after that. Problem solved :D
