I'm about to buy a ThinkPad. When I configure a machine in the Web store, I'm offered the option of purchasing extended warranty service, as well as what's called Protection Services. Try as I may, I can't figure out what the differences between them are, or even what is meant by "Protection Services."

Can anyone explain what the differences are between Lenovo's warranty service and protection service, and why I might want one over the other?

I believe that protection service repairs your laptop if you drop your laptop or throw out of window of your appartment on the 56th floor, while warranty doesn't.

It seemed pretty self-explanatory to me after reading the info on the Lenovo website. Or you can call their 800 #.

Where did you find these self-explanatory pages? The "Help Me Decide" links were not what I would call lucid.

I found their website confusing as well, so I called their 800 number and asked...

The "protection" upgrades cover accidental damage, as well as normal parts/labor issues. The "service upgrades" (not protection services) only extend or modify the normal warranty. Depending on the option, this might include just an increase in time, or might involve things like "on site" service, etc.
