Picked up an X301 Thursday. Warranty expires Aug 4. This came with Win 7 from the factory and the IT contractor I bought it from wiped it and put on a clean install of Win 7 Pro. Some of my Fx / Fn key combos aren't working and I think I need to install some drivers so that the F5 / Fn, for instance, gives me a list so that I can disable bluetooth or wifi.

Bought it the first day of a short trip. Will be home tomorrow and will download manual. Lousy wifi here precludes that.

You'll need Hotkey Features Integration installed in order to get the special keys working.

Regarding tests to run - I'd try to put some stress on the system running software like 3DMark Vantage, Furmark, super pi, Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool to see if it can handle it and I'd check every port (USB, etc) to see if they are working or not. And of course, check your HDD/SSD for bad sectors, SMART problems, stuff like this.

    Nice machine, btw.

    ^^^^ Very sound advice.

You may want to download and run System Update from Lenovo's website, it will give pick up the missing drivers/utilities, at least for the most part.

    ThinkVantage System Update

The only thing from the list that A1X had suggested that I'd personally skip is Furmark, since X301 has integrated graphics and is really not known for failures in that area.

Had you looked into extending the warranty, if possible? Might be not too big of an investment...

    Thanks George! :)

You are right, there aren't known failures in graphics area of X301, but Furmark will help you generate heat and stress the cooling system, that's why I have mentioned it.

I would definitely also try Memtest86, as I have had memory fail on me before. Otherwise for extreme heat, prime95 is another good option, but keep a close eye on this one as it can really bring a laptop to its knees.

Thanks for the good advice, all. Lenovo stuff is downloaded and working. On to the tests tomorrow.
