    hello guys,

i posted my t400 in ebay... I want to 3GB of RAM and 250GB 5400rpm hdd... it came with 4gb ram and 320gb 7200rpm originally.

does this void the warranty, like the person who buys this needs to use the warranty, does it need the original hdd and the ram?

    thanks.

the ram and the hdd is CRU parts, so you can upgrade it yourself without voiding the warranty. Obviously these new ram and hdd is not covered by Lenovo, but the rest of the laptop is.

when your HDD is malfunction, you can even ask Lenovo to send you a new one, without return old HDD :). This guarantees that's nothing of your personal will be able to exposed.

Depending on the warranty term, this is a possibility that you don't have to send the hdd back. But this is usually reserved for corporate and government departments, not something you can get as a normal consumer.

On most instances you will have to send the old hdd back, otherwise you would get billed by IBM service for non returning part.

If you're concerned about the personal information on your hard drive being exposed to sellers, wipe the drive using DBAN ( http://www.dban.org/). It's super easy and guarantees they won't be able to recover the data.
