If I replace my Thinkpad screen with a screen bought from a third party ( www.screentekinc.com) will it void my warranty?

I have the 3yr + accidental damage warranty.

Well that would make sense I suppose. But should anything else fail it would still be covered?

Why are you upgrading it if I may ask? You may be better off selling what you have now and getting the one you want.

I don't blame you for replacing your screen- I have a suck screen from Lenovo and doubt that I could sell it a get the same machine for what I paid.

Isn't the whole warranty violated if you change even one major component? I think the warranty is based on the whole, untampered unit.

The screen is Ok, I just prefer glossy to matte. I like my movies :)

However, I'd prefer a warranty to a slightly improved image. Perhaps I'll call and ask to make absolutely certain.

Hey Mobster...I noticed in the other thread that you mentioned you were possibly getting a new screen through Screentek for around 100$. Do you have any idea what kind of screen it is (manufacturer/specs)? Is it new or refurbished? That price seems incredible.

Edit: Also, I have a hard time imagining the service department even taking the time, or putting in the effort to check to see if your LCD was changed for the purpose of warranty validation. That would require them comparing numbers, and/or taking the LCD cover off. Really can't see them doing that for an issue unrelated to the panel. Where would it end? How many components would they "verify" before agreeing to fix your machine. I think you'd be fine, of course that's my opinion.

I wouldn't worry about your warranty, accidental or not. It seems like their warranty (Lenovo) doesn't mean anything, so rest assured with or without warranty - no difference.

I'm still hazy on the details myself, but if you follow the link it looks like there are plenty of screen options. I'm not sure if you must go with a screen meant for a lenovo or if you can choose. (From what I've read it's best to call and talk to them)

Do a forum search for screentek, a few other members have done it already.

It is a great price though huh?

Where are there screens for $100? I think what you mean is you can send in your screen for glossy treatment for $100. Most new screens seem to be in the $200 - $350 range unless you have an old low res screen. Am I missing something?

Oops, didn't catch that the screen would be glossy. I guess that would be sort of obvious eh? :p

Get one of those thin glossy clear plastic "clings" and cut it to fit your screen.

If we hear much more about 'accidents' this thread is going to be closed and the OP given a two day ban.

Against forum rules, and obviously fraud. I say (and you shall say) no more.

Did the OP suggest an "accident"? I didn't even think he entertained those comments.

Well, I went to screentek - Couldn't Lenovo tell because in order to remove the LCD assembly, don't they have to take the black dots off the screen to access the screws? I am considering this option - but as was mentioned, my replacement would be in the 425$ range for retail. :(
