I am about to purchase a T61, but after I customize my computer's specs, I came across the warranty section and not sure what to select.

The Warranty service upgrades comes with a base warranty which I assume is for technical support and hardware coverage. But then I look at protection services which reads:

ThinkPad Protection Services and warranty service upgrades help protect your product purchase in case of accidental damages, such as drops or falls, liquid spills and LCD damage. Include a warranty service upgrade with your protection service and gain peace of mind by proactively avoiding potential costly repairs down the road.

It says in the description that it includes a warranty service upgrade. So that does mean by opting for the protection service, I automatically also receive the warranty service for that many years? Which basically means you should not select both 3 years of warranty service and 3 years of protection service since protection service includes warranty?

Can anyone better informed than me update me on this?

And I am also wondering whether I should get a 3 or 4 year service.

Any help would be much appreciated, I want to purchase this before the 10% back to school coupon ends.

    Thanks,

    Mmm_unit

Hm...I'm not sure if it includes it. Have you tried clicking on the 3 years of protection service and seeing if the 3 year warranty option disappears? Otherwise I would have to say that a quick talk with customer service would make this more clear. Also, I would go with 3 years personally because with most companies even if you are close to your warranty coming up you can pay for more time. Just my $0.02 on the matter though. Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure it does include it. Pick any warrenty you want, then click on a protection service. You'll notice that the warrenty bubble goes back to 1 year...a standard option. IE, you cant choose 3 years of warrenty and 3 years of protection services. So I guessing that the protection services includes that many years of the standard warrenty, too.

    About the warranty,
1 year onsite 9x5 Next Business Day
2 year depot 9x5 Next Business Day
3 year depot 9x5 Next Business Day
2 year onsite 9x5 Next Business Day
3 year onsite 9x5 Next Business Day
    ...

If you choose the second one "2 year depot 9x5 Next Business Day", will both years be "depot", or first year "onsite" and second year "depot"?

if your system comes standard with a 1 year ONSITE warranty, then the 2 yr warranty will add an additional year of depot service. the base warranty however is usually depot

no problem, i prefer depot warranties, i hate having to wait for the technicians to come over just to tell me that nothing is wrong.

Ditto. I also think the onsite will very much depend on the skills of the one technician they send. Btw, for depot, they'll have it picked up from my home--I don't have to carry it to the post office or depot, right?

wow you are right. I did not notice that, you and shoelace are right.

So I guess the protection services DOES INCLUDE the regular warrenty.
