I have read from other posts that there seems to be problems with the playback fluidity on the T42 screens. I am looking at getting a T42/3 but I plan on watching DVDs on it a bit and I am worried that the quality will not be good.
I hope some of you T42 owners out there can let me know if you find the screen too slow to watch movies on ( I am guessing it is the refresh rate of the screen that is the problem...but I don't []).
Thanks!

Ive played movies on mine, although not as good as an HP or Gateway glossy screen, it is watchable... The refresh rate isnt the best but u can definitely watch dvd's w/o a problem

I have the T42 with the 15" "flexview" display and DVD movies are great, no problems even with fast action, but I'm not an audio/video phile...just a semi-normal,,,well kind of strange person really who likes to watch a movies once in a while. The only weak point on the T42 is the sound output...it's not that loud, so if you like it loud then you need to invest in some headphones or earbuds.

Thanks guys,
So the ghosting that other people are reporting in the forum is not really a problem for movies? I do not plan on playing any heavy duty action games but movies I really do want to be able to watch without having blurry pictures in action sceens.
Is it the "flexview" screen that is the one to look for if I want to eliminate the problem and do they make it in 14" aswell as 15" ?
I really appriciate the help guys!

i have the top of the line IBM video card 128mb, 15" screen, 1600x1200 resolution.
movies look good not great. -
RukRem,
Would you say that the problem is the screen's refresh rate or what?
Do you see the ghosting that other people talk about during action sceens?
thanks,

I dont't think it's a good idea to watch movies using t42,

There's nothing wrong with it, it will work fine. Modern LCD's have little ghosting problems. If the response time is anything less than 35ms there will be no problem.

I think it's misguided to expect a business notebook to compete with units that are essentially geared for entertainment purposes. That said, I find the T42 completely adequate for watching a DVD when I'm on the road or on a plane. Sound is lousy through the speakers but I use my titanium headphones..(the titanium bit is supposed to mean something since they went to lots of trouble to plaster it on the things) and I find it's just fine. As good as a home theater? Nope - but I have realistic expectations.
Watching DVDs on T42/3 a bad idea?
