The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

I disagree. They are just a jumbled mess where good information gets lost.

i also disagree.   i'd rather see people ask their questions out in the open where everyone can see, read, and potentially help.   the lounge threads make searching difficult and ultimately bury good questions and good information.

I don't agree or disagree. If user wants to start a owner's thread that their choice. If they want to post their problem on the open forum that fine also. It would be nice if we could sort the forum by tag. For example if I am looking to find a solution on a particular model, I could filter to thread that are only related to that model.

I see no point in lounge thread here since most of discussion is about ThinkPads anyway and as mentioned its lot more efficient to search for information in separate threads rather than in one big mess.
We do have owners threads here for X series, T410 etc.
Thinkpad'ers are rather active and willing to participate in this forum and its threads while in others there are rather lazy users (Dell and HP business threads are sort of weak compared to ThinkPads) hence why they might need "lounge" threads.

Edit: Agree about tags - would be very useful to search for information on each model in random threads.

I also agree with no to an owner's lounge. Things are already pretty jumbled in the Lenovo/IBM subsection.

Maybe we could have a troubleshooting thread?

Definitely disagree. Owner's Lounge threads are hard to follow, with multiple issues being brought up simultaneously. I actually rarely read OL pages when they start getting long, and any chance I get, I break a topic out of an OL thread into a separate one.

That would have the same issue as an OL page, unless you mean a moderator-maintained sticky containing common issues and resolutions.

I think splitting the forum into: Thinkpad l Ideapad l Essential

Wouldn't be the worst idea ever..... A lot like how Lenovo forums is set up. (No owners lounge. Just like a directory that separates it into the different types of laptops they make.)

This was discussed before by the Lenovo mods, but given the limited amount of discussion relating to Ideapads/G-series, it was determined that splitting the forum would take even more attention away from threads where Ideapad owners needed help.

So, until the Lenovo/IBM subforum gets more traffic/posts, it will likely remain undivided.

I mean the Lenovo/IBM has like 250k posts, nothing to sneeze at. :p

Hrm well that's a good point. Maybe sticky the owner's thread, and have on the FIRST page of the owner's thread have a link to common issues/resolutions? Though many people still don't ready stickies so that might not work..

the lack of sub forums isn't because the lack of people who frequent the IBM/Lenovo forums, but the other way around I think. Most of the people on here seem to be traditional (X/T/W/R/ maybe L/SL) Thinkpad fans, everything is related to traditional Thinkpads, there are very few threads related to the Edge Thinkpads or Ideapads, thus fewer people are willing to post about Thinkpad Edge or Ideapads, continuing the cycle that restricts the IBM/Lenovo forum to the Thinkpad X/T/W/R Series forum.

if we stickied every unique model owners' thread then there would be no room for individual questions.   everything would be pushed back to page 2, 3, or 4.   an entire board dedicated solely to owners' threads would look the same.

Don't know that I see the need, either. I think our wheel rolls just fine, no need to attempt to re-invent it.

I think our Lenovo section is fine the way it is, most people seems to get the information they want and we can discuss most questions openly which is good. The way information is split up in HP and Dell section can get quite confusing. I think it is fine the way it is.
