    Hi...

My R400 does not have a webcam. I checked on the Lenovo site (in India) while they do list a webcam (the clip on type), they also say it is not compatible with Win 7 (this has been discussed on the forum at various places).

Any recommendations on which clipon (or other variety) of webcam to get?

My projected use: Primarily for skype conversations. The cam has to be reasonably good as these won't be social conversations. Also, it has to be mobile (so small size is good) as I will be moving a lot and will need to connect with my work-related folks while on the move.

    Thanks.

Thanks. Looks small enough. But is it necessary to install the software or is it 'plug and play'?

Actually, I'm not sure. I think it was plug-and-play. You still need to install the drivers (available both from Logitech and Microsoft). But the control software is not needed I think; if I remember correctly I deinstalled it on the other computer I have. It adds nice features (zoom, automatic face tracking, etc), but it did not work correctly with my docking station (it could not be properly undocked, as it did not stop accessing the camera upon undock request). Still, the image and sound quality is decent (better then the internal Lenovo webcam), at least in Skype.

@akarts...thanks! I will get this. I thought I won't need a webcam, but it appears that I will.

Sorry for digging this old thread up, but i have a question considering R400/R500 and built in cameras.
Can i buy T400/T500 camera from ebay and install it into R400/R500?
Or does R series have different type of cameras?
    Thanks!

Nearly all internal webcams are simple USB. They are probably the same and if not the only difference would be the cable.

the 14.1" models use a different camera than the 15.4" models.   be sure to get the correct one for your screen size.

    T400/R400 = FRU 42T3106
    T500/R500 = FRU 42T3634

Also, depending on what model you have you may also have to replace your LCD cable with one that has a plug for the camera, as well.
