I'm eyeballing with this X201s model: X201s 514328U - does anyone know if it comes with webcam installed?

Laos is there a place to find the full retail X201s models spec list (ie I dont' need 340GB HDD neither the faster CPU but I want a webcam etc)?

No webcam on any X201s CTO or preconfigured I've seen yet. There were allegedly some top seller models of the X200s that had a webcam, but I never saw one. I believe the thinner lid and higher res screen disallows having a camera placed in there. It's a shame, would be damn near perfect if they fit a webcam in there.

Damn. I agree, it would make it perfect for me... I can deal with occasional USB sticks (HSDPA+ data or storage etc) but carrying around an extra webcam is out of question.

Is there anything else with these new low-voltage, 32nm CPUs that gives you 7+ hours under 3lbs and has fingerprint reader...?

How married are you to under 3lbs? An x201 will give you well over 7 hours on the 9 cell batter, but weighs in closer to 3.5lbs.

ditto, the X201 will still have sufficient battery life for your needs. You lose the 1440x900 though and go to 1200x800. I can't deal with that kind of resolution. The X301 seems like it might meet your needs, but its $$ and it's not the new core i LV's.

TBH I'd like to stay under 1.5kg = 3.3lbs... in case I'll have to haul it around for days or weeks, it would make a big difference...

Problem is there's nothing even remotely similar to TP X201s... X201 is very close but it gets heavier and heavier as you put a better battery on it: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas...ThinkPad/X-Series/X201 ThinkPad datasheet.pdf

    WIth a 6-cell it's already heavier than X201s with a 9-cell...

...really there's no other brand/model like this?

I think Sony has something. It's a bit more expensive though.

Thanks for the input. I will keep looking for a few more weeks and if nothing makes sense I might make a compromise with an X201 w/ 6-cell... dunno, I'm less worried about the CPU than having 1440x900 and a webcam - 1280x800 is way too low for my regular remoting needs.

PS: hm, Dell Latitude 4200 sounds very interesting... except its price tag, of course. ;)

OK, went to J&R yesterday and checked both - indeed the base weight difference is not much but I still miss the 1440x900... BUT J&R sells the i5-540M/2GB/320GB/webcam/fingerprint/BT/full ultranav etc version with 6-cell and Ultrabase w/ DVD-RW included for $1,299 - that's a pretty decent price, even if I have to get +2GB and reinstall W7 to get x64...

...how do I get 3-yr ThinkPad Protection for retail models like this?

You must add ThinkPad Protection within the first 30 days. Just call sales.
