I don't know what the conditions are, but it's worth calling to find out if you're in the market for a currently available model. Too bad the X220 isn't out yet, helluva deal. Is this something they offer a lot? I don't frequent the Lenovo sales site too often.

    Also 3yr OnSite + 3yr TPP for $100.

For me, an extended warranty with drops and spill coverage is something I need just in case. For that price shown, wow, and as you mentioned, its too bad the X220 is not out yet to take advantage of it.

I read another thread that one member will only take the lowest warranty offered. Wonder how many have had issues with their ThinkPads where a longer warranty would have been nice to have ? Desktops are easy to fix and replace hardware, but a notebook is way above what I would feel comfortable with.

ThinkPads are some of the easiest laptops to fix, in many cases on par with desktops. Not only are they well designed for easy repairs, maintenance, and upgrades, but Lenovo provides full, step-by-step manuals detailing how to remove, replace, and repair pretty much every single component of the machine.

I almost never purchase upgraded warranties for my ThinkPads. When I do upgrade or replace parts, I always do it myself. It's usually quite easy, and the only machines for which it hasn't been were ones on which I was either doing unorthodox upgrades or replacing one of the hardest-to-replace components (the LCD) on one of the hardest-to-upgrade chassis designs (T60). Even then it wasn't really difficult, just tedious.

only time extended warranty help me when T400 montherboard died and they replace everything. I mean montherboard cost a lot if you just go by yourself. Otherwise 3 yrs basic extended warranty will be fine too.

ThinkRob, does Lenovo send out a manual for doing it yourself hardware replacement or is there a download site that gives you a step by step manual ?

How about a step by step video by chance that one can download ? Of course the T420 is just coming out and the X220 ( One I really want ) is not offered until mid April I understand for this question to be asked, but if there are similar cases (X201) then that would help as well for starters to look at.

    Thanks in advance

Edited : Found this Lenovo site for manuals but interesting that the T420 or T520 are not included though they are now for sale. Nice that Lenovo includes the manual and video's for the end user.

Thanks, ThinkRob and TheGreat for providing the links so quickly! I just want to remind everyone that this information and more can be found in the ThinkPad Sticky at the very top of the board.
