Hello,
How big of a difference is there between the T500 and the R500 in terms of weight?
The review of the T500 says it is 6.7, from what I remember the R500 is 6.6... isn't the T500 supposed to be much lighter?
Thank you for your help.

If you want a rough ballpark, the T500 is about six pounds and the R500 is about six and a half. There's so many variances like whether the review unit had the larger battery or whether they included the power adapter in the weight calculation, it can be difficult to pin down the weight.

What review says the T500 is 6.7 pounds? Both my review and Kevin's review of the T500 with the 9-cell battery found it to be around 6.2-6.3 pounds. The R500 user review found it to be 6.6 pounds with what seems to be the 6-cell battery.
As ZaZ said, there's variations depending on the configuration - you can look at the Tabook (link in the Thinkpad sticky) for exact numbers. -
Thank you for your answers. What about the difference between R400 and T400?

My T400 with 9 cell battery is about 2.74 Kg.

Thank you all for your help. Sorry for the short non-descriptive posts, I am just trying to decide on a laptop and I got confused trying to understand the weight of these models.

Fmyhr (Frank) have done this detailed comparison of the T500 versus R500 on Lenovo.com forum.

Thank you for your help.
I just ordered a T500 from the outlet store (new condition). I feel lucky...

btw since it is new and not refurbished is it possible to buy extra warranty for it? -
But, congratulation on the purchase, it is a fine machine and very robust one at that. -

One other point: I got a very good price on the R400 simply because the Reseller/ Lenovo Outlet had got an institutional order for 50 R400 machines. But the client only bought 49 of them and there was this one machine left, which he sold to me and the discounted corporate price. Also, the warranty that I got is the same as the corporate client, which is 3-years onsite (which I am thinking of supplementing with an International Warranty Cover as I do travel overseas somewhat frequently). -
the international warranty is already included in the standard warranty, you can't upgrade the coverage.....
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-IWS#sw <---- you can check which countries your thinkpad is covered in. -

One other thing I wanted to mention. In India the Lenovo consumer lines (IdeaPads etc.) get a standard 1-year warranty. But the ThinkPads, which are considered "enterprise" machines come with a standard 3-year warranty. I don't know if the same rules apply in other countries.
Cheers! -
Also, most of the thinkpads ordered by Enterprise have 3 years warranty, so your laptop may have the 3 years warranty because of this reason. -
