I noticed that when I use the vertical scroll bar to scroll up an down my itunes library on my T60 (Core 2 Duo 2ghz, 1GB RAM) I hear a low pitch, sort of scratchy noise every time I move the scroll bar. Sort of sounds like its coming from the HD, like its loading something. It's not coming from the speakers because when I mute them I still hear the noise. It seems to be the most noticeable in itunes but sometimes I also hear it while scrolling on a webpage. What the heck is this noise? It's annoying me. I've had 2 other laptops and have never heard this before.

The Core Duo, and Core 2 Duo chips emit a high pitched noise, sometimes a lower pitched noise. However if this only happens randomly I doubt it is that, because you would notice it all the time if it were.

No, this is more of a low pitch clicking sound that I can hear when pulling the scroll bar up and down.

    try this:
control panel --> Sounds and audio devices --> Volume panel, in the volume panel there is a selection called the speaker settings ---> go to Advanced and select a proper setting for you sound system setup(laptop stereo speakers in your case).
    Good luck!
