    Hi all,

Has anybody ever had this problem with Microsoft Word? (See screenshot attached)

Every time I highlight something with the mouse it appears in some weird random colour. I think it has something to do with Lenovo's custom graphics driver because I don't remember it happening when I used to use the driver straight from Intel's web site.

I wish I could just use Intel's unmodified driver, but I hate having to lose the screen brightness indicator :(

I am running a clean install of Windows 7 Professional x64 on my Thinkpad X201 (see signature).

    Any thoughts??

    Faruk

PS. The same thing used to happen on my old X200 running Office 2010 Beta. (The problem wasn't there with Office 2007)

Edit: Oops I just fixed my post... I didn't mean "highlighting" as in using the highlighter tool. I just mean when I select text using the mouse...

Nope, don't have this issue with Lenovo's driver for the T500, in Windows 7 Pro x64.

I'm not sure if you meant this in your original post, but does this issue occur when highlighting anything in any application? Or only in Microsoft Word?

Yeah it only happens in MS Word. And I found a thread on the Lenovo forums describing the same issue:

    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T5...ws-7-32-bit/m-p/240120/highlight/false#M28068

I signed up on their forum and posted a link to this thread. So hopefully if the solution gets found on one side, the other will know :)

Is there any way to report this bug to Lenovo directly? It would also be a good "excuse" for us to get an updated build of the Intel graphics driver :p

And MidnightSun, which version of Office are you using? 2007 or 2010? Because on my X200 with the GMA X4500, I only had the issue with Office 2010. But with my X201 (Intel HD Graphics) I have it with both 2007 and 2010.

I had this issue with non-Lenovo laptops too, i installed a copy of the Office 2007 on Win 7 for a friend's HP Elitebook, and it also had this issue.

So if I were to send an e-mail, to whom would you suggest I send it to? Lenovo? Intel? Microsoft? Did your friend's Elitebook also have Intel graphics?

Edit: Tomorrow I think I will try chatting with an Intel rep. online: http://www.intel.com/support/feedback.htm?group=graphics

Well I just finished chatting with an Intel support representative. He asked me if I tried the drivers from Intel and I said no... So he said that it is probably an issue with the OEM driver and that he would notify the necessary people. But he said I would get a faster response if I contact Lenovo directly.

It's too bad Lenovo doesn't have a chat tool for technical support.. I'm feeling a little lazy to try :(

Has anybody here tried Intel's drivers instead of Lenovo?

I do not have the problem with my x201 Windows 7-64 bit in Word 07. I am using the demo version of word until I get Office 2010, but that shouldn't make any difference.

Are you using the latest driver? I believe this bug only exists in the latest version from Lenovo.

I don't know if I'm using the latest driver. I have had the computer for just over three weeks - would it have shipped with the latest driver?

I somehow doubt that it would come with the updated driver, since when I got my X201 it came even with the original BIOS.

But anyway, I uninstalled the Lenovo driver and installed the one directly from Intel's web site. Surprise surprise... the issue is gone. But also gone is the OSD for the brightness indicator.

Looks like Lenovo sucks at making drivers. We might even have better luck contacting Intel to make their driver stop breaking Lenovo's OSD. I think I will stick with the Intel driver for now.

Lenovo needs to get their **** together when it comes to the graphics drivers. They always contain major glitches.

There was a critical update available that fixed the Word and mouse issue for me. Check your lenovo updater ...

Seriously? What was the critical update called? I didn't see it in my ThinkVantage System Update.

Hey merlin, I checked out that patch, but it only fixes an incompatibility between Office 2007 and Client Security Solution... It doesn't refer to the graphics driver at all.

The issue that I had was that the mouse device would not work or behave erratically in Word 2007. Obviously it was not a graphics problem but had to do with a new version of client security, that was fixed with the patch.

That's odd.. because I've been able to reproduce this problem consistently on 2 systems:

    1) Thinkpad X201 with Windows 7 Professional x64 with latest integrated graphics driver from Lenovo, in Word 2007 and 2010.

    2) Thinkpad X200 with Windows 7 Professional x86 with latest integrated graphics driver from Lenovo, in Word 2007 and 2010.

so has anyone got a solution for this. i notice that this happens sometimes and not very often. i don't really want to install intel's driver since it doesn't have the osd for screen brightness

i don't have that exact problem, but i do have a highlighting issue.

if i highlight from right to left, it pretty much never shows up. if i highlight from left to right, then highlighting shows except for the first character. however, the highlighting is always active.

i recently found out that if an image is on the page, then highlighting works correctly for that page only.

    anyone know anything? i have a t61p
