So this has been happening almost since I go it in november and I have no idea what it is.

I can only describe as a ball bouncing off a table or hard surface. I know it is coming from from near the nav keys or near the ultra bay area.

It is definately a part sound and not a windows sound.

It will happen very randomly, always when the hd spins up (when coming out of hibernate, etc...), if I refress a web page, install a program, etc...

I have no idea what it is. The machine works great, no bsod or anything.

Does it sound like a marble dropping? If so, it's the hard drive.

Do you have a Seagate HDD?

That Seagate HDD is prone to a defect that sounds like a marble dropping. I think the only solution is to send it in for a replacement. Remember, just send in the HDD, not the whole laptop.

Speaking of the head parking noise that sounds like a marble dropping, the Seagate and even my WD HDDs I'm running are as quiet as a mouse with no weird head parking noises. OTOH its the Toshiba HDDs I'm also running that make all sorts of funky noises...and strangely also fail more often.
