Yep, i woke up this morning to find my thinkpad's battery light flashing amber. I looked it up online and watched my heart sink. Only a year and some months old, and it's kaput. No power surges in the house or anything. I have to try one of my parents r61 6 cells to see if it's actually the battery that's blown so i can make sure nothings bad with the charging circuits or w/e in my mobo. ( sucks.

But this thread isn't just to complain(though the underlying theme of disappointment rings throughout this thread). My question is, While I have this problem and before i can get my hands on a replacement, would i be able to run my laptop? I've heard that if i leave the battery in while doing this, it could damage the laptops charging circuits, but how about if the battery is not plugged in? I will be a decent while until i get this new battery, and i don't want to stay constrained to my asus until then.

1 year though. pisses me off. and this isn't even the first problem i've had with it. Months ago my AC cord the bed. The wiring on the inside wouldn't connect or whatever(think of having to bend the cord to charge the laptop)

You can perfectly use the laptop with the battery unplugged and stored away somewhere, as long as the battery is not a part that needs to be there for the laptop to be steady.

Yeah just run it without the battery. A year for a battery to die is justifiable if you used it constantly.

One year and some months is acceptable if you use the battery constantly. Don't feel too upset about it. I don't believe I have ever had a 9 cell which lasted more than 2 years, although some others surely experienced it.

My old asus 9 cell was charged up every day and drained to 20% sometimes or 55% and then back to full, every single day. After 2 years it just stopped taking charges. I couldn't change the threshold because this was way back and it didn't have that option.

Just get a new battery. $200 for a 9 cell every 2 years is okay I guess.

I'll probably have to wait a little whie i guess. The battery doesn't exactly make the thinkpad sturdy, though i wish there was some...filler plug i could put in so metal contacts aren't exposed. Hopefully i can swing a discount on it and get it for like 150
