    Refer to title please.
My associate, JM, states that there are only 2 available screens for his 15" widescreen model.. being the LG and the Samsung screen.

I don't know about the 14.1", so here we go!

Please, if anybody has pictures of their screen, please do post them. I'm thinking about getting a Thinkpad, so this would be extremely helpful.

JM keeps stating that they're absolute rubbish screens.
    Is that true? :/.

Since I'm getting seriously into photography, if the colors don't work correctly; there's no point in utilizing it. ;/

    Aj,

there are calibration and color setting threads to ensure color matching irrespective of the screen manufacturer.

Alex, if you get this FRU# LCD: 42T0410

I can give you the settings I'm using, if you choose the dedicated card I mean.

Gah, I don't know if I want a dedicated graphics card.
I hear the "nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M" graphics card isn't too great, and I might as well save some money.
    That is your card correct?

Oh, and why does it make a difference if I have an integrated card? >.>

I got a Samsung but after the "Monitor Calibration Wizard" software and a modification to glossy (like Sony XBRITE), this screen is rockin.

You mention the screen mod in a lot of your threads. Sound very cool. Did you buy the part and do it yourself or did you send it out to have it done?

I believe www.ScreenTekinc.com does it fairly cheap.

I got a price quote for my 14" T61P and the response went something like this :

I still don't know if I should do it or not, matte finish is pretty usefull against sunlight of heavy interior lighting.

How's your inside/outside experience with the glossy finish rxblitzrx ?

I have an R61, but since it shares many part commonalities with the T61 I'm going to make a post here.

I got a Samsung, colors are fine on it.

Toshiba is not one of the manufacturers of the 14.1" WS AFAIK. toni2, you have a 4:3 14.1", so that's probably why you have different.

I think I'm going to go get the R61 later.
Much cheaper, and doesn't it just suffer being a little bigger/thicker?

Otherwise, I think the R61 is essentially the same as the T61 correct?

    To sum it up:

    - about .2" thicker
    - uses a standard height (12.7mm) optical drive
    - lacks the option of an FX 570M found on T61ps (it still has an NVS 140M optionally)
    - only 14" models have the roll cage
    - lack of WWAN options

Other differences affecting the R61 include the fact that the R61 has the option of a glossy screen and offers a Blu-ray drive, unlike the T61.

    Hmm, my views:

    - .2" isn't that much.
    - Standard height optical drive wouldn't matter to me. ;|
    - I technically don't even need a dedicated card; but the 140M seems fine.
    - I'm planning on getting a 14" ;), definitely solved.
    - That's okay. :]

    Seems great to me!

    Haha, good job.

But honestly, would people pay more money for simply, a smaller laptop (essentially?).
    Roll cage ftw.

Probably for the sake of having the flagship model. And because thinner is better (lies).

Here's a shot that I took of my R61 next to a T40. If you know how thick a 14.1" T4x series is, I think that the picture provides a decent clue as to how thick a 14.1" R61 is.

    That's not too bad.
Besides, it's not like I'm going to be typing on top of 1.3". The lid goes up, and I'm pretty sure that height diminishes a bit.

How do you feel carrying it around and such? Typing, etc.

I carry my R61 with me to the library quite a bit, and it feels like nothing compared to my 1200-page textbooks. It's about as thick as half of the textbook, and honestly, weighs next to nothing compared to the textbook. Then again, it's barely heavier than a T61, so it won't make a difference across the board.

Typing on this thing is a joy. I have one of those new Apple aluminum keyboards that was a replacement for an older keyboard, and the tactile feedback on that thing sucks. Keys have the right amount of response, for me.

Gah. Just 3 more months or so.
I wonder if they're going to update the R61 though. Maybe make it thinner? Haha.

Oh, they have Penryn processors updated on the R61 14"!

    One can only dream :D

I would doubt it, seeing as there's hardly any space above or below the DVD drive for "thinnening." Heh, thinnening.

I was kind of pissed at the Penryn update... should've waited to buy my R61.

When did you buy it? Haha.

If they don't update the R61 in 3-4 months time; that's good for me. >.>
    Otherwise it'll cost a ton more T.T..
    Spending $1000 on a Thinkpad is a dream :|.

Bought it 11/28/07. Received 12/6/07. Quite satisfied with their shipping speed.

I'm still satisfied with it, I'm just annoyed at myself for not having waited for the Penryn release.

Uhm, do you know of any site that has a sticker specifically made for the R61 14" widescreen? >.>
I tried skinit, but all they have are the older models. xD

The glossy finish comes with all the positives and negatives of "glossy finish"

On these specific Samsung panels, I've noticed:
    1. an increase in vertical viewing angles. Before, the vertical viewing angles were so bad you would lose clarity by just moving your head a little.
    • higher contrast

I'm much more satisfied with the panel after the conversion. Keep in mind: I am a student, and use my laptop indoors 100% of the time. Therefore, the major "reflective" issues that are associated with glossy panels don't affect me, and I benefit from the higher contrast.

Got the LG (LP141WP1). Screen is much better than I had expected, that being said, vertical angle is not comparable to glossy screens like Toshiba's, but the screen is bright enough at the highest settings.
