With my z60 backordered quite a while, I am looking for other good laptops. The r52 has almost the same performance specs as the z60m I picked out, but a higher resolution screen.

    How do these models rate?

How durable? Are they plastic or the magnesium casing?

Do they have the same t43 harddrive issue with a pata>sata converter?

EDIT: Ugh, same pata>sata issue it seems :(

Why does IBM hate me? :(

What is the pata>sata issue? Do you mean the drive is sata but the cable is pata?

I don't know about the R52, but my experience with a R51 has been positive. Its a solid, durable, reliable notebook, as you would expect from IBM ;)

Uses a wacky bridge to connect the harddrive, and in turn makes it impossible to upgrade to anything down the road but a super overpriced drive from IBM (if they still carry them). Otherwise you get a error on every boot, and massive instability.

    Wow that really sucks :p

How did you find out about this? I'd like to look into this because my brother is thinking about getting an IBM ...
