I am at the end of a horrible experience with the CA Internet Security Suite on my T61P. Though the suite worked alright on my desktop, it's a disaster on the laptop. The real-time protection in its antivirus program caused repeated freezes, which numerous removals and reinstalls couldn't fix. Its Web Inspector program slowed all browers to a crawl, broke CallingID and seemed to be incompatibile with the Chrome add-on in Firefox.
I've just deleted the antivirus program and am looking for a replacement, preferably for the entire suite.
I haven't installed the Norton Anti-Virus which came with the laptop because I believe it's a resource-hog. NOD32 seems to have had some incompatibilities with Thinkpads (see http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=129201). Not sure about Kaspersky or Avast!
What would people suggest?
I'm running 32-bit Vista. haven't done a clean-install yet because I've been trying to familiarize myself with the Thinkvantage software to see if any of it will be useful to me. I suspect some of my problems stem from conflicts between this software, the antivirus program and the latest driver for the 570M video card.

im using the free AVG on my t61

I run NOD32 on my T61p Vista x64 for months with no problems at all...one of the best AVs out here /w minimal resource usage.
Best suite overall might probably be Kaspersky.
Currently my setup consists of NOD32 AV + Comodo Firewall + Superantispyware.
For free ones there's AVG, Avira, Avast..I like Avira. -
This is very helpful.
Morphy, do you run NOD32 over a clean-install? Or do you run it with lots of Thinkvantage software? Such as perhaps the Client Security Solution? I'm wondering if this wasn't one source of the conflict with the CA programs. -
I installed it after a Clean Install but I also have some Thinkvantage software as well installed...l like the Thinkvantage Power manager plus couple other minor ones. And yes I do have CSS installed.

There is a thread on this under the Windows forum.

avast is free and better than anything else i have installed in over 100 laptops

Kaspersky Internet Security 7 is the way to go, Anti virus, Firewall, pop up blocker, spam filter and much more in one

I have nod32, commodo, and threatfire. Most secure setup you can have and I have no incompatibility issues at all.

I am running the free AVG and it works well.

"What antivirus works best with the T61P"
Care and thought while using your computer--especially when surfing the net. -
Another vote for NOD32. Lightweight and non-intrusive. Just works in the background with no problems.

This thread contains a good discussion about antivirus software and has a link to AV Comparatives. I don't think there's anything specific about the Thinkpad that would merit special consideration, so this generalized topic would apply here.

The link is dated 2006, but the info is good (and the AV Comp link is up-to-date). -
I'm very grateful for this.
I'm going to try these one by one on a trial basis and see which one I like. -
