Well from what I know, the R-series is more of a mainstream/budget line. You don't pay a premium, you get a good computer, but it's not top of the line. It's more of a value for price. It's more geared towards homes and regular consumers. T-series would be the flagship line. You can get the very best. They are more for prosumers and power users. You pay a premium for the best. And also the -p models on the T series are certified for CAD and stuff.
The probable reason the pictures might look the same is that the T and R -series both have widescreens now. They used to be different. -
T is a little thinner, 14'' and 15'' T series have rollcage , only 14'' R series has rollcage.
T can be customized with higher performance components, otherwise they are same -
Also, the T series use slimline Ultrabay drives.
-
To sum it up:
- about .2" thicker
- uses a standard height (12.7mm) optical drive
- lacks the option of an FX 570M found on T61ps (it still has an NVS 140M optionally)
- only 14" models have the roll cage
- lack of WWAN options
Other differences affecting the R61 include the fact that the R61 has the option of a glossy screen and offers a Blu-ray drive.
Unless any of the above affects you a lot, I would bet that you could get a top-of-the-line R61 and not notice any difference from a T61. You still, for the most part, get the same components as you would a T61.
What are T-series and R-series differences?
