I carry my T61 in a Targus laptop bag. I've had it for the past 10 years, and still going strong. It's been though MANY flights (being bashed around by airport security in countless airports), many vacations, etc.
No matter what I throw at it, it still comes back for more :)
I bought it so long ago, I don't even remember how much it cost :)

I have a R400 and I use a Pakuma bag, which works well (for over 4 years now).

I just use a plastic bag :) I mean its a tough computer, no real need for a special case IMHO.

plastic bag is too expensive and haute couture... i just balance the laptop on my head... totally environmentally friendly.

On a serious side, i think the OP should state whether he intends to put anything else in the laptop bag, i.e. books, notes, etc.

    I use a Crumpler bag.

Hey I use the Brain Bag BackPack & Brain Cell sleeve too. I'm happy with them, the Brain Cell is pretty unique in the amount of padding it has, and you can use it with pretty much any backpack, you don't have to pair it with the BrainBag backpack.

I switch between two of them at the moment. The first is a Swissgear backpack I picked up about a year ago for my old 15" T60p. It works great with the T400, is rather comfortable, and holds an amazing amount of stuff inside of it... price is pretty decent as well. Here's the Amazon link: Amazon.com: SwissGear Computer Backpack (Blue): Electronics

The second is an older IBM-branded ThinkPad carrying case, P/N 10K0207. I don't like wearing a backpack all too often, especially at work(makes me look way too much like a student, haha) so this messenger is a great compromise. It doesn't have much space at all for books, but it's pretty heavily padded and fits the T400 really well. Accessory space is a little more organized than the backpack. The great part? I picked it up from a local Craigslist ad for only $5, and it was brand new in original packaging.
