I noticed that the T61P is offered in WSXGA+! I have been waiting for the T61P in a lower resolution ever since it came out and now its here. Also the labor day deal is REALLY good, I can get a 2.2ghz, Nvidia 560card, 2gigram, 100gig 7200 rpm HD, and 3 year warranty for around 1500. Truly an amazing price for such a quality product. Does that seem too good to be true? Do you all think it would be foolish now to still go for the MBP, since I was seriously considering that before this model/deal came out? I see very little reason to go for the MBP now...minus the looks/weight/brighter screen...what does everyone else think? I think can live with a dimmer screen, and less thrill looks, but will the 15 inch with 6 cell be practical for taking to school? Also does anybody know how much battery life a 6-cell will get? Lastly, what kind of advantages do you think the T61P has over the MBP?
I know this is a long post, but I would like any feedback.

The shipping for a T61 so far, is like forever. The macbook pro is like twice as expensive

Hey Sunchaser,
As for the deal,yes... it's too good to be true. Heck I even ordered one and I've still got a 15.4" T61p still "In process" from a July order. But I couldn't turn down similar specs for $300 less. I honestly believe WSXGA+ is the better screen resolution for a 15.4" and aside from that, the only component that isn't in the initial offering of the T61p is the Wireless USB mini-card. (which plagued initial orders due to shortages)
In terms of TP vs MBP, this is truly a matter of perference and what you will be using the laptop for and in what capacity. Depending on the software, and the classes you take, may dictate if you are in a Mac-heavy environment, or PC. ThinkPads are just build tougher, more durable, and provides you the additional TrackPoint that some ThinkPadders swear by.
As a rule, Laptops that use video cards are better suited with a 9-Cell battery. Not to say you can't get away with a 6-cell but the more non-integrated components a laptop has, the more juice it will drain in a short amount of time.
If you're not concerned with looks, but raw performance, durability and flexibility, then I would suggest the ThinkPad for your needs. -
top of the line macbook would be the 17''.
over $3,000
top of the line T61P, comes to around $2,000.
the 570M scores alot higher 3dmark06 scores than the 8600M GT.
thinkpads have the red nipple, which is godly.
more durable, i think battery life is about the same for both.
thinkpads carry the "professional" look.
PCs can use docks.
the only thing the MBP has over the thinkpad is looks, and a DVI output imo.
you're basically paying more for the apple name. -
If you don't have a strong preference for Mac OS X then get the T61p.
What do to?
