Job: Working here, I think "Technology Manager" is my title but it's pretty random as to what I do on any given day.
Education: B.S. in CS
The best part of my job is talking to the editors and sometimes visiting contacts at Lenovo to see what they have coming six months from now -- even though that's not my job anymore since I'm no longer an editor, I still insist upon being included on any meetings with Lenovo. Sorry, it's all under NDA though. -

Haha i'm a senior in high school right now, thanks midnight sun, makes me feel less intimidated by all the veterans in here. I'm not working so much now but made a good bit of money this summer working at a local DQ so i have enough spending money for just hanging out right now. I'll be applying for a winter job in a kitchen at a private ski club, Devils Glen when it starts looking for it's winter employees.

That's twice today I felt so old: once at Verizon store getting cell phone and telling them "I don't need anything with web browsing or text messaging" (the look on their faces was priceless), and now reading that a lot of you are still in college or in high school
That's OK, one of these days you will feel like an old fart too when you approach your 30's like me
Anyway, I wear a few different hats...
by Day: opto-electronic circuit designer/engineer at Bell Labs (BS in CompE/EE, MS in optical communication)
by Evening: family guy with two adorable kids and equally adorable wife
by Late Evening: dance music producer/writer ( www.alex-twister.com) -
Don't worry as a younger person I don't really like texting...although I do like the internet...also for email and tethering.
-
… but I will have to switch to text messaging when my kids get older. Most of my older friends tell me it’s the only way they can communicate with their teenage kids lol!!!
-
Sorry, that's pathetic.
I hate how communication has become so horribly reductive. I use the internet a ton and I type full sentences. Just imagine if your co-workers typed like 12 year old kids.
-
).
Now back on topic. -
Sorry, back on topic. Seems like a lot of people are in technical disciplines. That probably strongly correlates with a lot of independent thinkpad users.
-
So true! I wanted a ThinkPad for a long time, but they were just too expensive. So I purchased Compaq and HP/Compaq business machines. After Lenovo took over, prices became a lot better. I could not resist the T61p. I've really enjoyed this computer thus far. I still have two years of warranty and ADP left, so my upgrade will likely be i7 based or better.

I was guided to ThinkPads after the manager of the DQ i work at gave me a T21 in 2005. I used it all the time and it works great to this day, but i gave it to someone, it was extremely solid. Now i'm using a T43 i bought for total 370 bucks on eBay, it was an off lease from an accounting firm, came in almost new condition in original box and packaging. I could barely get an Acer netbook for that kind of money and laughed when i set down my T43 next to someone's Aspire One, at how little i got it for.

And don't you go lumping yourself with MidnightSun. You're a troll. He's not. -
I want a thinkpad W500, and getting one soon.
Occupation: Full-time student
Area/Major: GMP Mechanical and Productive Engineering
As for text-messaging, dont feel strange jonlumpkin, I do the same, and I am 20. But I prefer the good ol BB MSN for everything. Full sentences FTW.
Normal students, who dont need the power nor anything a ThinkPad offers, get Apples for the looks...:ekk:

Freshman at my local community college; planning to transfer to UC Berkeley.

I'm a PhD student in computer science. I use my T400 for my research.
Education: BA in Physics, MS in Comp Sci
Interestingly, when I go to conferences, I see most people using either Thinkpads or Macbooks. Macbooks seem to be slowly gaining on the Thinkpads. Also I've started to see people giving presentations on netbooks.
What do you guys/girls do by day...
