So, what do you think? Are these good deals, or would you pass?

I'm checking out the T42, w/Office, 1.8, 512, wireless, and 60gb. After the 9-cell battery it comes out to around $1800. Is that a good price?
UPDATE: See below for my configuration, and let me know if you think it is a good deal or not.
-
the second one sounds like a better deal to me. bigger discount %, faster HD, less weight.
-
Yeah, the second one (for $1500) is the one I'm looking at as well. The $1800 figure I provided above was after customizing (+ warranty, etc.).
-
try to compare it with the visa discount section. if it is cheaper, then it is a good deal.
i believe the reason why they discounted the model is because it doesn't use sonoma. but i heard sonoma produces more heat -
What were the sonoma products?
Also, I'm trying to find the Visa section, and I can't locate it on their site. Any helpful links would be appreciated. -
i forgot the link, it was in this forum. sonoma gives better front bus and allows u to use DDR2 ram instead of normal DDR
-
I found that link: http://www.ibm.com/businesscenter/visa

You can probably get it for less on eBay.
-
Also be sure to compare those against the ThinkExpress models, which normally have lower prices to start with. If you are a student, also be sure to check the Education page. The 3-year warranty looks nice, though.

COULD YOU FOLKS HELP ME OUT?
I just wanted to follow up on this, and ask for everyone's expertise on whether or not you all think that this is a good deal to move forward on.

bump.. Could really use some help with this one.
-
I don't know if that's a good deal, but invest in a 15" FlexView screen.
-
I've heard that the new 15" screens cause the thinkpad to be much larger, since the other t-series cases don't fit for the new 15" screen. That, of course, affects portability.
Also, I've heard that the 15" screens require more battery power, which would affect use vs. charge time.
For those of you who haven't yet seen my possible configuration on the previous page, here it is again. I could really use some advice here.
-
The main difference between the 15" and the 14" screen (other than that extra inch giving you more room for the rather high 1400x1050 resolution) is that the FlexView screens use a better LCD panel - better colors and view angles. That's why I think it's a worthy investment.
What more advice do you need? -
-
I got mine 2378-R9U on ebay for $1600. Mine is similar to yours except it is 15" and I only have depot repair not on-site. Plus you got office. The FlexView screen is great but does use more power. The 15" is about a pound heavier. It is a little more than I would like. The 14" is the perfect size in my opinion.

To be honest, I think the deal is OK, but definitely not impressive. The warranty's nice, though.
-
hey did you end up getting that notebook? reason im asking is because i am looking at to get pretty much the same thing. same model number and pretty much the same configuration.
if you did get it i would like to ask a few questions about before i decide on mine -
I'm also interested in 2373H6U..........
What do you think of the new Thinkpad deals?
