I personally think it's kind of expensive for that config. I would say you be better with 2623D6U and save around $400-$500 from the above config if you ordered at costcentral or buy.com. Even though it's 1.8ghz/80GB but I doubt you'll notice the difference.

Don't spend too much unless you are a gamer or you need graphics power. 1600 is a lot especially for a college student. If you just need it for simple college stuff, just look through various dell configs or even some Asus models and find one that is cheap. 14" or 15.4" should be enough for screen sizes, 128mb dedicated, wireless, 6 cell batteries, any dual core, any optical drive should be fine.

Weight should be somewhere around the neighborhood of 5.2lbs? Less than 6 lb for sure.
Sounds like a decent deal. (RAM is low for that price. But it's an easy and cheaper upgrade). It's true that it's a bit expensive but you pay for the legendary IBM quality.
Be sure to look around at other options listed above too.
GO TRITONS! -
Go tritons!
Anyway, I will mainly be using this comp for email, surfing, homework, whatever projects, watching movies, music, and some gaming. I really do not need xp pro, or a fingerprint reader, or bluetooth, but I cant configure those options since I may buy from the school store.
Is this too expensive? I am looking at the Dell E1505, but i heard that the build is not great, the sony sz or fe (although they are expenisve too), maybe an hp (except UCSD doesnt offer repairs for it) and maybe asus. I am looking for something that would last at LEAST 2 1/2 to 3 years.
I like the 2623D6U from costcentral, but its only x1300 graphics. I would prefer the x1400.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again! -

If you want to game, perhaps something like the PortableOne MX with the 7600 go card might be a good option.

For me, I will be doing light gaming...so I am mainly only looking at the x1400 or cards around that, as it tends to get more expenisve when i look at the x1600 or more.
So this deal is not an AMAZING deal eh? -
I think price is good compared to how much we have to pay overseas.
Just up the RAM at least to 1.5GB. 2GB (1GBx2) would be the best right now though as 2GB sticks are still too expensive. -
thanks for your replies. It seems that this isnt an AMAZING deal, so i may still think about it and consider. I could get a lot more bang for buck with dell. I am considering the sony or dell. The plus for sony is its only 4 lb, and the dell would be the best for the buck...arggg Decisions! The only reason im considering the IBM is i heard the quality is the best.
Thanks for your inputs and more are welcomed. -
Considering the 100GB 7200RPM drive and the x1400 it is actually is a pretty good deal for a ThinkPad. Was only pointing out the the 7600 go on the Asus is a better gaming card.

yea it is a better gaming card...my main concern is i can get all the same specs on dell for around 400 dollars cheaper..
What do you think of this?
