Am thinking of buying my first Lenovo Thinkpad X61 from a friend. He's only had it a couple of months, barely used, still under warranty until November. What do you pros think of this config. and what would be a fair price? I'm not a gamer, need something fast and light for travel, not a high demand user but want a machine that will last and is sturdy with good graphics. I would also want to install XP. Any input or opinions appreciated.

build a same system online then take $200-300 off is about right

I like the configuration but we need a price...

config looks good

Direct from Lenovo this config. comes in at about $1,274.00. The only hesitation I have is it has Vista Business on it and I'm not a super tech saavy person. I don't want Vista and would have to have XP installed on it, don't know how difficult that is to do.

If he got Vista business it should have in the set-up XP CD's that you can use to downgrade to. Also, like Ark said it isn't difficult to do. A price also would help us ponder upon your configuration and selling from your friend.

Thanks Ark, sounds good, great tip about buying XP at a student discount.

So... what price you thinking about buying that for?
-
He wants $900.

That's a pretty good price. I would take it for that much. Maybe you can try to haggle him lower though
What do you think of this configuration?
