    Hey gang,

I was wondering what everyone thinks of the X61 after using it for a few weeks or months.

I personally love mine. I think there were some issues here and there but overall im pleased. It took a while to get to me and there was a lot of bloatware when it came but thats all gone now. I also got used to the trackpoint much faster than I expected and now I can never go back to the touchpad. The only thing I would have done different is ordered it with XP instead of vista. Battery life is great so far 6+ hours on balanced feature. If I disabled wireless and lowered the screen brightness I know I could squeeze out 7.

    What do you guys think?

I concur with you espcially about XP. At times when I take notes in class I wish I had a full size backspace and more area to rest my wrists. But, I'll take portability over a 15.4" brick laptop. I also wish I went with the 4 cell because I never need the juice of the 8 cell and it sticks out too much...but for $10 mroe for the 8 cell I couldnt pass it up.

Love not lugging the brick around.
Don't like the paint starting to rub on the cover.
    Battery life unbelievable.
Wireless agn card has been somewhat problematical.
    Clean install of xp easy.
Removal of hard drive cover somewhat of a pain.

I agree 100% about the backspace key. Also, ironically for the last week or 2 my wireless card has also been giving me some trouble. It doesnt always connect right away or when it is connected it just disconnects randomly. This is a very recent occurrence btw.

Other than that I have nothing but praise for the computer :)

I love my X61, no optical drive for reduced weight definitely is worth it. It was at first a hassle having a shorter backspace but that's something you get used to. Also, until I got adjusted/re-routed it FN+F4 always prompted sleep mode that was until I disabled sleep from the keys.

One dislike though is how the "y" and "b" key is slightly recessed from the rest of the keyboard but then again you get used to it.

Hi, do you have an x61 or x61s? I see people sometimes write x61 without the 's', when they have a x61s. I think your battery life is great for being a x61, usually only x61s can pass 6 hours battery life with moderate use. :) And you use full screen brightness?

I have the x61 and get about 7 hours battery life. Wireless set to off, brightness set to half. Most users are not getting optimal battery life with the x61 because they don't adjust all of the available power options.

*note* battery life is exactly the same for me in both XP and Vista. Vista required more fine-tuning. I turned the file indexing off, as well as the system restore feature. For some reason both of these were active while on battery.

absolutely love my little tank! except for the quality of the screen.. 150 nits it not enough, I'd have prefered 180 and a better resolution like 1280x1024.

Can't have enverything and what they offer is a really good price/perf/size factor ratio.
