The Edge is available in both Matte and Glossy (not the screen, but the casing itself).

Has anyone seen/felt the matte? how does it compare to a typical thinkpad? how would you describe it?

I haven't seen the Matte finish on the top, but from the overall feel of the laptop I would say similar like the SL. Cheapy feel. But definitely not like the actual thinkpads rubber finish.

Probably similar looking to the x100e matte.

If they are going to offer the rubberized plastic/vulcanized, they're not going to cheapen up so it will be like no other ThinkPad, the rubberized plastic is pretty much the same on any others. Also, if you want the feel of a ThinkPad, GET a ThinkPad, not a knockoff like this.
