So, I've been trying out a T43 for a few days now, upgrading from a T41, and I have the FAN under control, use TPFancontrol, but even though it SAYS that the PCI is the heat producer running at 47-51 C, under the TRACKPAD there is a TREMENDOUS amount of heat.
In all the thinkpads that I have used before, I don't recall the HEAT under the TRACKPAD being the issue?
Any thoughts, is this the WIFI card, or some ATI Graphics card? This is a model with just the 64MB ATI card installed,
Bluetooth, OFF
WIFI Intel ABG
Nothing really else. 7200 rpm drive, but on the RIGHT side where the drive is there isn't really a lot of heat

The Sonoma Pentium Ms which the T43 uses are known to run warmer and be more noisy than the older Dothan and Banais models. The biggest heat sources on a notebook are the CPU, GPU, WiFi card and hard drive. The ThinkPad WiFicards which are Athernos cards do run a bit warmer. You should be able to downclock the GPU if you are not using it.

Unfortunately, T43 really sucks for its notorious noise level problem.
I briefly owned a T43P and its noise from both hard drive and fan drove me crazy.
My observation is that the heat is generally from the GPU. -
Does the GPU sit under the trackpad? I have the FAN noise under control, WAAY better than a T43p I had. Should the hard drive, be like other hard drives of the same size/speed/type? Or is there something in the CASE of the T43 compared to other T4x that makes the noise of the HD louder? For the most part, I dont' see a noise problem there yet.

Just a guess, may be the wireless?

My T43 is A LOT cooler than my T61p. I can have it on my lap for a long period without any heat problems.
The fan in the T43 is very loud though, and ratchets up and down constatly.
What generates the HEAT in a T43?
