I just took what ever HDD came with my T61 now I want replace it with a more power conciseness, speedy and larger one.
I would like 100GB or more.....
I am really trying to pay attention the the amount of power it uses and still want to get a speedy one.
I went throught the toms hardware reviews.... http://www23.tomshardware.com/storage25.html?modelx=33&model1=845&model2=422&chart=157
And concluded to this dirve:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148184
Then I realized I could use a wee bit (.1) more power and get way more performance and a larger drive.....

What would you choose or do you have an even better option.....
Thanks

also i realize now i didn't even select relay power efficient hard drives..... its still better then some.....
any one else know of a happy medium..... -
Power conciseness?
Power consumption for hard drives is really unimportant. They are merely a fraction of the laptop's power consumption as a whole. Users here mention how they've only gotten ~10 minutes of difference between using a 7200rpm drive and a 5400rpm drive.
You're also looking at some bad deals. Check this one out:

Even if you still don't want 7200rpm, considering that 7200rpm drives are always more expensive per gigabyte, the fact that it only costs $6 more than the 5400.3 link you posted, that newegg price isn't all that great. Not to mention, after shipping the newegg price is probably the same as the Dell price for the Seagate 7200.2 (Dell shipping is free). -
what about the same 160 gb i posted above but with perpendicular technology

good info those are just links to products.. doesn't mean I'm going to buy them there.... i just wanted to show what i was looking at -

Dont forget the paypal20 promo code at newegg that gets you $20 off $100
That makes the Seagate 5400.3 160gb $89.99 which is cheaper than anywhere else right now. -
and from what I can remember reading around the 'net that particular drive performs similar with the 7200 RPM non-perpendicular drives as well at a fraction of the cost/power/heat
