K, I know I posted the other day about what DVD burners would fit in the super slim T61, so now will it take hard drives that most laptops have?
Could I remove the 7200rpm 160gig HD that is 9.5mm from my Inspiron 1520 and put it in the Thinkpad?

Thanks for asking this. I've noticed that Lenovo charges a great deal more for HDs on their configuration page than I can get 2.5" drives for.

Any 2.5" SATA had disk should work in your T60. It's not a proprietary format.

Ok, then I'd like to note that they're charging roughly double for the 200gb drive. I'm not certain of the math, but choosing the worst drive should still save enough money to buy another 160gb separately with the same amount of money. Or use the money saved to buy an SSD drive for booting fast with.

So the connector is standard SATA then (for mobile drives anyway)? Installation easy? (eg. a screw on the bottom, rather than removing a keyboard etc)

There is a guide on their site for changing the drive.
    Why do they charge more?

Yes any 2.5 inch SATA drive should work. I replaced my stock one with a 7k200 from Toshiba with 16mb cache very nice; quiet, cool, and fast.

Hey philfna, how do you like 64-bit Vista business? My school offers it for free and I was curious if it was any better for a normal student user. (or any worse)

Well there are some differences that are worth noting.

    1. I like it A LOT, but some applications are busted like Microsoft Groove (which is dumb since its their product).

    2. But there is a bit of speed boost with some applications, and others are slower.

    3. No 16-bit apps, and no unsigned drivers; although I have not had any problems others have.

    4. I can still play my games (CIV 4 and HALO), and Lenovo has all 64-bit drives which rocks.

Is a nice sum up of X64.

None really it is in features. Ultimate has Windows Home Premium's media + Business's remote access business tools, and adds dream scene, bit locker, and full imaging backup to the mix.
