    I was interested in buying an i7 based Lenovo Ideapad Y580 but in the last couple of weeks they seem to have disappeared from stores and teh Lenovo website here in the UK.

    Is this now a dis-continued model ? Is it being replaced or has teh Y500 now superceded it - even though it is a lower spec in terms of GPU ?

    Yep it's been replaced by the Y500. But the Y500 surprisingly suprasses the Y580's GPU in performance even though it is supposed to be a lower model. The 650m they use in the Y500 is apparently clocked faster and on top of that is not hampered or throttled by heating issues.
