What is the purpose of PMTask in Task Scheduler (executes C:\PROGRA~2\ThinkPad\UTILIT~1\PwmIdTsv.exe)?

Does it need to stay enabled? The description says Thinkpad Power Manager Idle Task.

It executes on every idle. I have already disabled another task added by Lenovo - the one for handling power management for a second HDD in the UltraBay slot (I have a DVD drive)
