During my config for the laptop, there is an option for Wireless Personal Area Network. What is this and how is it used? I am familiar with bluetooth and wifi, but not sure what this is? Thanks.

I am looking into purchasing an X300,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the personal area network? I am wondering if it is worthwhile? Or just a gimmick. My main purpose for purchasing this feature would be to have a wireless printer.

Does anyone know how well it works?

Do you know how long before it is a useful technology, I am debating whether or not to incorporate it on my new PC. It seems it still might be 3 years away from being integrated in a useful manner, which is probably just beyond the useful life of the laptop.

    Thanks.

    Feel free to give advice.

Maybe not 3 years, but I'd say a good year or 2 before it gets popular. I don't have much experience with this technology yet, and I haven't really look into the products that support it. But I found this article about HP, they said 2008 will be a trial year for UWB products, they will roll out a couple of products and mainly focusing on external dongles.

If you're planning to get this option, then you should start looking at the available devices such as printer and stuff. The only thing I'm worried (and I'm pretty sure it will happen) is that, by the time it gets popular, a newer version of this technology will be rolling out. Kinda like when 802.11b first came out.

I see the option is $56 from Lenovo, I guess it's not that bad to invest if you plan to keep your laptop for couple of years.

    Thanks for your help.

It is not the cost I am worried about, it is the fact that I have to choose between an imbedded verizon wireless card and wireless USB.
    The X300 cannot take both.
