Hi. I am trying to get a definitive answer as to what the fastest intel cpu this chipset can support. I know it can handle the Xseries intel cpu but what about quads?
Just wanted a heads up to see how much upgrading room I have.
-
PM45 can handle all Socket P CPUs, and is backward-compatible with the 1st gen Socket P Meroms and Penryns, alongwith the new Penryn-Refresh series....
X7800/X7900/X9000/X9100 are compatible.
Penryn QCs are also compatible, but they need a revised Socket P ', so current notebooks that do not offer a QC as an option, will not be compatible.
(BIOS support should also be considered, if upgrading) -
ah sounds good. 2-3 years down the line when majority of the applications are optimized for quadcore then upgrading may not be an option.
I really wonder how chips with TDP >25w will have an effect on battery life on a system. So far there aren't any legitmate reviews with 25W cpu vs 35w cpu vs 45w cpu all at the same frequencies.
There's an idea for kevin -
^^ a review to conclude battery life/power consumption that is.
What is the fastest CPU that PM45chipset supports?
