The highest it ever went to was about 80c. Is this normal?

Yes, when you game or use your computer for that long it should go that high.

What I've found is that the environment where your computer is used makes a huge difference in terms of how hot your computer will get. The attached file shows my T61p under heavy load and apparently on the 19th of August according to the date this file was created. The 19th of August where I live generally means very high humidity up in the 60-70% with high temperatures. In general though, I've never been able to exceed 88C no matter how long I'm doing whatever I'm doing. I'm just not looking forward to the day when I have to clean out my notebook's fan.

I am yet to reach 80c on my X200 with CPU running at 100%.

There is a program here somewhere on this forum that will stress your cpu for a period of time while the temperature is measured.

I think I've maxed my CPU at ~75, and GPU (FX570M) at about 89 while playing games. I don't know if it stays at that temp for long since I just get max and min values, I believe the fan kicks into higher gear and brings the temp down.

Idle my CPU is about 40, and GPU 56-60.

My undervolted T61 C2D barely reaches the 56C mark at load.

If I just stress the CPU, the cpu stays at around t30powers temps. I think its really when the GPU and CPU get stressed at the same time that the temps get really high.

That's a good point that you bring up. What component it is you're stressing can make a difference. Games will generally stress both the CPU and GPU bringing the most temperature increase. Defragmenting w/ JKDefrag brings a 5-7 C rise for my harddrive. Running wprime 1024 only raises CPU temperatures but since the CPU is relatively close to the GPU, the temperature rises for both components but not nearly as much as when both are stressed at once.

Hi guys. I've recently done some temperature tests with my T61 (T7200, I think), and I've reached temperatures of up to 95-100C on stress tests. This seemed ridiculously high to me, so I'm wondering what I can do to fix this. Besides that, the computer generally performs strangely as quite often, the computer is warm (and fans blowing) when doing simple tasks such as the internet, or a word processor. I believe it usually hovers around 50C when idle.

Defragmenting is the best and safest way to keep your computer cool.

Have never ever reached 95 - 100 C. If you have a warranty w/ Lenovo, ask them to check it out. My idle temps are around that range though.

This would have a marginal effect if any on those temps. Those high temps are coming from the cpu/gpu, not the hard-drive. Clean out the fans or contact tech support

if you have warranty contact them. If not, then clean the fan. Don't ruin your warranty =]
